Leisa's top tip for finding referrals for fellow members:

'Finding out who my fellow members target market is... By the members being specific and identifying who they are seeking, I can then go through my existing database to see who I can refer.  I actively review my database for a member once a week.'
'The trust I develop with my clients makes it easy to refer quality members without much trouble. If clients like and trust you, they will want to deal with anyone you recommend.'

Dear  <<First Name>>

Welcome to the October 2016 edition of your BNI Australia Newsletter.

It’s officially spring with the magpies swooping and birds nesting.

People can often be scared of swooping magpies. Being afraid of what the future holds and what it may bring for you and your business is inevitable. It is the decision to be afraid or to face it head on that is difficult. To be afraid is to become perpetually anxious of the future; to become stagnant. To face it head on is to embrace everything and go forward with pride; accepting everything that comes your way, positive or negative.

Although there seems to be no in-between, there is another alternative; to face the future head on and be prepared to adapt with contingency plans in place. You can’t keep looking behind your back all spring for potential magpies. The future is unpredictable - it is okay to be concerned, but this fear shouldn’t be the reason your business isn’t moving forward. Success isn’t linear; there will be ups and downs. It is what you do when hurdles occur which determines your level of resilience.

Before we begin, congratulations to all the regions on a very successful August - the results image is included below in case you missed it on our Facebook Page.

Don’t Be A Crow – Find Focus And Clarity

On your quest for success, it is important to stick to your goals and to remain focused on where you are headed. Sitting down and re-evaluating your current mindset can help inspire progress and provide you (and your staff) with a sense of motivation. Why does this business exist? What are our core values? What would be our realistic definition of success? What are our short-term and long-term goals? Consider all of these to create one unanimous vision for the business understood by all employees.

Clarity of purpose is a powerful tool. Although it is not always easy to achieve, all members of your business, regardless of their role, should prioritise clarity and ensure that if there are any issues, they take the initiative to speak up or resolve the issue themselves. Read more about the importance of business clarity here.

The Distractions That Can Interfere With Your Success

Together with clarity, focus is essential to moving forward and achieving what you want. Consider each decision you make and if it is going to help you achieve your goals. Focus pushes your business in the right direction towards success, and helps you to not be distracted by the 'shiny' objects.

Taking every opportunity presented to you can put pressure on your resources and most importantly; time. There’s only 24 hours in a day and 7 days a week, so it is important to be focused on your goals and not be side-tracked by one-off opportunities. Distractions might not seem too big now, but in the long term, they can interfere with achieving your goals.

5 Distractions That Stunt Your Business discusses the importance of staying focused, regardless of the size or type of your business. Do not allow the self-limiting beliefs of others to impact on your own mindset, as envy and jealousy from others can often come as a result of being successful. As your business expands and your 'to-do' list grows with it, it can be easy to lose touch with what is happening day-to-day in your company. Remember why you started your business in the first place, and always try to stay connected.

Goal Planning For Success

Goal setting is not only an important part of directing your business in the right direction, it is also an ideal way to measure success. Unfortunately, the road to success is not always clear-cut, and as the owner of your business, it is your responsibility to find the right path for your company and employees.

How to Set Business Goals looks in-depth at how having a clear vision and well-planned goals can help your business succeed. It is important to understand the role both short-term and long-term objectives play, and knowing how to set these is vital. Stay organised and focused on these aims and if you have multiple, ensure they are consistent.

How do you differentiate between the opportunities that are worth your time and those that aren't? Do you prioritise clarity and focus throughout your business? Is goal-setting an important part of your professional success?

We are looking forward to sharing your thoughts and ideas on BNI’s social media channels. Email for a chance to see your comments on our Facebook page or blog.

Until soon, in your next BNI newsletter edition.

Warmest regards,
