A man in a backpack hikes toward mountains covered in golden and green trees.

Santa Barbara. Shepherdstown. Saratoga Springs. When it comes to ideas for places to live, y’all really came through for Andy.

If you recall from last month’s newsletter, Andy is considering moving back to the U.S. after some years living overseas and wanted to find a smallish city/town with lots of restaurants and breweries that’s less than 20 minutes from biking and hiking trails.

You made 128 (and counting) suggestions. See the full list here.

The #1 suggestion, recommended by four separate readers, was Flagstaff, Arizona. One reader described it as “one of the funnest towns in Arizona with tons of mountain biking, hiking, skiing opportunities. Fantastic food in the old downtown area with Dark Sky Brewing Company and other breweries. Lots of great culture.”

Other top vote-getters were Bend, Oregon; Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and Park City, Utah. Andy mapped most of them here.

And what does the man himself say? Besides noting how kind this community is (so true), he offered his current shortlist:

1. Asheville, NC
2. Bend, OR
3. Bellingham, WA
4. Boise, ID
5. Flagstaff, AZ

Thanks so much to everyone who chimed in to help us create this fantastic list of places for Andy! Have a geographic conundrum you need help with? Let me know and we may crowdsource it in a future newsletter.
