Reading Ready Pittsburgh's
First Storytime at the Laundromat

On August 27, 2022 Reading Ready Pittsburgh hosted a Storytime at the Laundry House in Homestead in the newly renovated Family Read, Learn, and Play area. Children usually loathe boring laundromat trips with their caregivers, but Reading Ready Pittsburgh is out to make the routine more exciting!

The kick-off party boasted free Kona Ice, free laundry wash and dry, a raffle for a basket of laundry supplies, and free books for the kids. There were even special guest readers from partner organizations Carnegie Free Library of Homestead and Steel Valley Family Center as well as Cynthia Battle and Learning and Education Daycare director Danielle Daye.

Creating a Reading Routine
for Your Family

Some helpful tips to creating a reading routine are to plan time to read with your child daily. Reading before bed can be calming for your child. Encourage your child to turn off technology and "snuggle in" for a good story!
Another tip is to keep a book in your bag for when you get a few quiet moments together. It could be on the bus, waiting for an appointment or at the laundromat.

Don't forget to be a reading role model.
Show your child that you love reading too!
