Come Early for Verifier Training, Stay Late for Certified Passive House Builder Training

This year, PHIUS will offer two of its foundation trainings in conjunction with the conference:
  • PHIUS+ Verifier Training December 3-4
    Verifier training equips QA/QC professionals to complete the PHIUS+ 2018 third-party quality assurance protocol for large scale projects--and to join in on the explosive growth of multifamily passive buildings. 
     
  • PHIUS Certified Passive House Builder Training December 9-11
    The PHIUS Certified Passive House Builder training, now offered in partnership with RDH Building Science, has been updated--and now requires only three in-person days, plus an online module. 

NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Awards--the Hits Keep on Coming

PHIUS and NYSERDA have partnered for years on workforce development, standards, policy, and more. NYSERDA has been at the forefront of putting New York State and City on the front line of high-performance building and carbon reduction.

In October NYSERDA announced its Buildings of Excellence Awards for projects at various phases of completion. We highlighted five winning PHIUS+ projects in an earlier email. But we missed projects that are in early stages of the PHIUS+ Certification pipeline:

New Certified and Pre-certified Projects

PHIUS+ Certification continues growing--and, well, the number of projects this month has outgrown its home here in the newsletter. And so it's moved to it's own list.

In summary, since the last newsletter:

  • Four new projects earned final certification (all single-family)
  • 13 projects earned pre-certification
    • five multifamily
    • one school addition
    • one commercial office building
    • six single-family projects

PHIUS is Hiring: Quality Assurance Certification Reviewer 

Did we mention that the PHIUS+ Certification program is growing fast? That's because the process provides invaluable design guidance, quality assurance, and risk management to project teams.  

Due to growth, PHIUS seeks a qualified candidate to join the Chicago-based PHIUS Certification Team.

Meet Two New PHIUS Pholks

To help meet the growing demand for PHIUS+ Certification, we're happy to welcome Isaac Elnecave to the PHIUS Certification team. Prior to joining PHIUS, Isaac worked as a policy manager focused on promoting the development, adoption and implementation of the latest building energy codes and appliance efficiency standards.  Isaac also worked as a civil engineer in Southern California where he designed seismic retrofits for older buildings susceptible to damage from earthquakes. 

Isaac has a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Mechanics from the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as a Masters in Public Policy from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Bianca Joseph joined PHIUS as Constituent Coordinator where she manages Alliance member relations, helps coordinate the Annual North American Passive House Conference, and manages social media. Prior to joining PHIUS, Bianca worked as a Membership and Communities Associate and as a Youth Development Mentor with City Year Chicago.

Bianca has a Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs and Political Science with a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning and Russian Language from the Florida State University.
