The House ‘Samosa Caucus’ gained a new member Nov. 8 evening, as Shri Thanedar, a Democrat, won a seat in Detroit, Michigan.
The Associated Press called Thanedar’s race late evening, as he amassed 72 percent of the votes. The millionaire entrepreneur, who grew up in poverty in Belgaum, poured $10 million into his race.
Reps. Pramila Jayapal, D-Washington; Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Illinois; and Ro Khanna, D-California, all successfully fended off their challengers. Rep. Ami Bera, a physician who has served Sacramento since 2013, is still battling Republican challenger Tamika Hamilton. As of Nov. 10, with 26 percent of votes counted, Bera had amassed 36, 176 votes, 56 percent. Hamilton has garnered 44 percent of votes counted.
