A Recent Trip Experience

At the end of June this year, High Sierra Divers made a group trip to Cozumel & Isla Mujerus. I wanted to share a short summary of my experience during this trip…

"At Isla Mujerus, the group from HSD made an unforgettable snorkel dive. We got to see eagle and manta rays, but the highlight was seeing about 30 whale sharks all in the same location. Out of all the travel I’ve done in the past, this was the largest group I had ever seen in one spot at the same time! The whale sharks were anywhere from 25 to 40 feet long. It is amazing to me how something so big can move so gracefully through the water.

After our snorkeling, the group moved on to Cozumel, where we got to do some drift diving. Mexico is an easy destination to get to, and the diving is always effortless. The water was warm, and the vis was good. Among the many critters we saw were tropical fish, reef sharks, lobster and turtles.

During the trip, the group of divers got to know each other and had a great time hanging out together. This is something you don’t get when you travel as a single diver, or with a partner. On our trips, you leave with many new friends."

We truly enjoy sharing these trips with our diving (and non-diving) friends, so please consider joining us on any of our warm or cold water adventures. Tina and I would love to get to know you better, and we always leave our trips with great memories! Please enjoy a few pictures from the trip.

Why Buy From HSD?

A personal message from Ed…

(Full disclosure – Although I am affiliated with HSD as a Dive control specialist, I am not an employee or have any financial investment with HSD. This is an unsolicited message).

So many times, I hear fellow divers talk about needing certain pieces of gear or wondering what they should buy. I always point out how HSD can help them out, and I find out later they bought off the Internet or from another dive shop.

So, why do I choose to buy from High Sierra when there are many other choices I could make? Well, let me put it this way – “Why wouldn’t I?” There are a number of reasons that I remain a customer of HSD…

First of all, Tina and Doug are so knowledgeable about the diving equipment they sell. On many occasions, Doug has provided me with tips about the right choice to make with a purchase. And when I’ve strayed from that advice, I usually find out he was right. Tina deals with equipment and customers every day, and has an intuition about what choice will provide a great diving experience for the customer. Their customer service is second to none! Often times, they even offer to let you use the pool to try out gear to make sure you will be happy with your purchase. Can the Internet do that?!?

Secondly, they want to be competitive when it comes to pricing! This means they will try to price match when they can. But, you have to give them the chance to do that. So, what would I rather do – buy the gear online from an unknown dealer, or from a store with fantastic support for what they sell? Remember, for some of this gear, we are talking about life support under the water!

Ok, so why don’t I just go down to the bigger shops in the area – you know who they are. Well, for me, the cost of the gas, and the time it takes aren’t worth it to save a couple bucks. I’d rather support my local dive shop and help to ensure they are still around down the road.

I could go on and on, but I’ve said enough. The instructors are great, the equipment is great and the customer service is great. Why do I need to go anywhere else?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and Happy Diving!

Come and experience the quality and diversity of diving for which San Salvador is legendary. Most of the dive sites are located nearby and on the islands lee side, so rough seas are rarely encountered. The dive sites are almost all walls so the possibility of going deep is available, though you need not dive deeper than 40 feet to reach the reef if you prefer to keep a shallow profile.
