Action Alert: Workers' Action Centre
Today we are releasing our response to the Changing Workplace Review Interim Report together with Parkdale Community Legal Services. This new report, Building Decent Jobs from the Ground Up, calls for sweeping reforms to our labour laws that are creating precarious and low waged work.

The Ministry of Labour’s Changing Workplace Review is the biggest review of our employment laws in over two decades. The appointed Special Advisors have identified the main areas where reforms are needed to deal with precarious working conditions. They are accepting responses to the options they are considering, until October 14, 2016. We need your help now! Use the Building Decent Jobs from the Ground Up report to give voice to the labour issues you are facing in your community.

Download the sample letter today. We've prepared a letter that you can edit to reflect the struggles faced in your community, and call for structural reforms. Please submit this letter to the Special Advisors by October 14. If you need any assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us. The Migrant Workers Alliance for Change will also be circulating a response to the Interim Report on Monday, sign up here to receive it. The Ontario Federation of Labour will also be publishing their response to the Interim Report, stay tuned for more details.

It is time that we tackle the root causes of precarious work. For far too long millions of workers in Ontario received little protection from violations, faced poor conditions, instability and lack of access to basic rights in the workplace. Many of the workers that come to WAC or PCLS for help have spoken out, have fought for their wages, have documented their stories and become involved in a growing movement for change. Now is our chance to stand up in solidarity and call for comprehensive changes to our laws, and not settle for band-aid solutions.

Thank you for your ongoing support! Hope to see you on Saturday October 1st at Queen’s Park to demonstrate for $15 & Fairness. Meet us at 12:00 pm (noon) at the Northwest corner of University Avenue and College Street to kick off Decent Work Week actions together. Click here to RSVP and share on Facebook.

Stay tuned for further information, and follow our Facebook & Twitter accounts for more regular updates.
