WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear PWN Norway members and friends,

The first quarter of 2017 has been invigorating. PWN Norway continues to grow as we share knowledge through stimulating guest speakers and enriching workshops, build alliances through networking events and provide a platform to unite in our vision to advance gender-balanced leadership in Norway and globally.

You may ask, “What brings together International and Norwegian professionals and entrepreneurs?”  It’s our desire to impact sustainABILITY by leveraging 100% of the world’s talent to increase equality and empowerment of all women and girls.

Learn more about who we are, our members and what we are doing in this newsletter.  Better yet, join us at our next general meeting, as our guest.

We look forward to seeing you.

 BETTER TOGETHER
By Alicia Partee

If you want to go fast, go alone - If you want to go far, go together!
African Proverb

Around 1980, I remember walking down the street with my cousin, headed to the store to buy some candy. Though I didn’t understand it at the time, I had a disability called nystagmus, which causes low vision.  I asked my cousin to do me a favor. “When we pass by the cute guys on the next street and they wave at us, will you signal me so I can wave back?” She gladly agreed to help me out.  As we approached the guys my cousin said, “Ok, wave when I count to three.  One…..Two…..Three…Now!” I waved and smiled. 37 years later, women continue working together to be a source of diversity, talent and innovation.
ASPIRE, BELIEVE, ACHIEVE 2017
By Alicia Partee

PWN Norway is part of a global movement of people working towards gender-balanced leadership through professional development, international and cross-industry networking. PWN Norway believes it is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a sustainable world.
Norway continues to be rated one of the most gender-balanced countries in the world.  When we look at gender-based disparities across four key areas: health, education, economy and politics, no country in the world has fully closed the gender gap, but it has been reported that all five of the Nordic countries have closed more than 80% of it.  Many in our network come from and have family in countries that are much farther away from being gender-balanced.

PUT YOUR MARCHING BOOTS ON
By Edee Carey

Brit-Agnes Sværi never considered herself a «political person». In fact, before becoming involved with the Women’s March this past January she had never taken part of any other kind of march in her life. Unlike many others, her participation was not in response to one man but in response to the mobilization of nearly five million women in only eight weeks. The issues surrounding the march mirrored those of the feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970s- ranging from healthcare to inequality in the workforce- prompting many to reevaluate their outlook on not only which pair of boots to parade the streets in but gender-balanced leadership as well.

Additionally, she has worked as both visual arts curator and as course mentor alongside visual artists, writers, actors, entrepreneurs, designers, poets, dancers, filmmakers, homemakers and gardeners. Through these experiences she has gained incredible insight of the creative process and the skills needed to produce successful projects.
