Dear SBMT Community,

The season is now moving with full momentum with matches across this upcoming weekend!

It is of course a very special weekend with many commemorative services arranged to honour our brave men and women who served through wars in our country’s name. Please see the details below for Anzac Day at the Mentone RSL and note that SBMT will lay a wreath at the RSL service after the 8.40am march which commences at the Keith Styles Reserve. For those attending the march, please stop by at the memorial which honours two Mentone footballers who paid the supreme sacrifice during WW1.

Private William Penny (Service number 6427) was a well-known Mentone footballer and popular identity in the district who was killed on active service in Belgium when fighting with the 22nd Battalion in the AIF in September 1917. His mother Mrs Mackay of Florence Street Mentone had two other sons in active service at the front when she was notified that William (aged 26) had been killed.

Private Alexander John Ross Smith (Service number 888) was a Mentone footballer and also a lacrosse player for the Melbourne Cricket Club at the time of his enlistment. Smith served with the 5th Infantry Battalion (H Company) in the AIF. He died and was buried at sea as a result of wounds sustained in action at Gallipoli (Dardanelles). Smith was just 22 years old at the time of death and his parents were living in Milan Street, Mentone.

The club also lost 8 players during WW2. Their names are proudly displayed in the club's social rooms.

SBMT Auskick Leaders

The SBMT Auskick Leaders were sponsored by the Women of SBMT and provided terrific leadership and coaching skills to a number of our young players from the U13s upwards.

Women of SBMT Season Launch

The Women of SBMT is a coterie group at the St Bedes/Mentone Tigers bringing together women from across the club to support our players and families. The Women of SBMT have assisted many of our club members over the years who may not have been able to play football without their support. We also hold a Ladies Lunch through the season and support a different charity each year. It is a terrific way to meet women from across the club from Auskick right up to Senior players and parents/partners/supporters.

All are welcome down at our clubrooms on May 3 to launch the new 2022 season!
