COVIDSafe Update for our SBMT community.

Most of you would have heard the news by now that restrictions for this current lockdown will not ease as originally planned this coming Thursday. This means that we will continue to stay apart for a while longer.
The challenge facing more of us now is that of positive mental health. For lots of our community the announcement today will be difficult to hear, for some even overwhelming. If you are experiencing an impact to your own mental health, it is important to reach out for support. Maintain the hour of outdoor exercise, stay connected with friends and family by phone or zoom, keep occupied to stay positive. If you have team mates or SBMT community members who you know live alone or may be vulnerable, it is important to reach out to them more than ever. Your call could be the one that keeps them buoyant.
One initiative currently gaining momentum is “One Foot Forward” where individuals or teams can sign up to walk in solidarity during October which is mental health month, for the 1 in 5 people in Australia who experience symptoms of mental illness every year. The idea is to get people out and walking, which is good for mental health, as well as raise awareness of mental illness and raise funds for the Black Dog Institute. Joining the initiative may be a way for teams or SBMT team mates to stay connected during this tough time.

Tackle Your Feelings session
Attention SBMT Coaches & Club leaders/committee members!
Tackle Your Feelings session
Thursday 2nd September, 2021 @ 7pm.
This coming Thursday we have scheduled an online session with former St Kilda AFLW coach and pioneer of women's football Peta Searle OAM. This is a mental health training program for our SBMT footy club coaches & leaders to improve our understanding & awareness of mental health and to enhance the individual experience of our players, their families and our local community. Peta will share her mental health journey opening up on the challenges she faced growing up, paving the way for women's football and her passion for coaching.
Committee members and coaches should have received an email invitation from our Director of Coaching (Juniors) Joe Galati to register for the event. Please contact Joe via email if further details are needed on how to book your place.
SBMT looking to the future
Whilst maintaining our regular connection at the club is not possible, work is continuing behind the scenes to plan for our future. Work on the SBMT Strategic Plan is underway to give us direction and focus to take our beloved Tigers successfully through the remainder of this decade. Focus groups and surveys will be forthcoming in the next weeks and months to ensure that the opinions of our community are understood.
Stay COVID Safe

There are cases of COVID not far from any of us currently and traces in wastewater in our local area. Staying COVID Safe and following the health advice will be the best way to get us back to some sort of normalcy soon.
  • 🦠 Get tested if you have the slightest of symptoms
  • 😷 Wear your mask properly fitted over nose and mouth
  • 🤲🧼💦Sanitise & wash hands regularly, especially when out and about
