COVIDSafe Update for our SBMT community.
Most of you would have heard the news by now that restrictions for this current lockdown will not ease as originally planned this coming Thursday. This means that we will continue to stay apart for a while longer.
The challenge facing more of us now is that of positive mental health. For lots of our community the announcement today will be difficult to hear, for some even overwhelming. If you are experiencing an impact to your own mental health, it is important to reach out for support. Maintain the hour of outdoor exercise, stay connected with friends and family by phone or zoom, keep occupied to stay positive. If you have team mates or SBMT community members who you know live alone or may be vulnerable, it is important to reach out to them more than ever. Your call could be the one that keeps them buoyant.
One initiative currently gaining momentum is “One Foot Forward” https://www.onefootforward.org.au/ where individuals or teams can sign up to walk in solidarity during October which is mental health month, for the 1 in 5 people in Australia who experience symptoms of mental illness every year. The idea is to get people out and walking, which is good for mental health, as well as raise awareness of mental illness and raise funds for the Black Dog Institute. Joining the initiative may be a way for teams or SBMT team mates to stay connected during this tough time.
