2018 Top Priorities
Regional Initiatives

Identified as the top priority for the Leadership Group, we're co-leading a set of regional transportation measures. In 2018 we're co-leading a nine-county traffic relief measure known as Regional Measure 3 (RM3). Future efforts will include the development of a three-county Caltrain Measure in 2020.
Diversifying the STEM Pipeline

Diversifying the STEM Pipeline from cradle to career to develop a strong regional workforce. In addition to hosting middle school students at STEM Leadership Summits, efforts also include our Community College to Career Initiative – a partnership with 17 community college partners to build training and hiring relationships between our member employers and community colleges.
State Legislation & Housing Bond

Advocating for state legislation and leading statewide housing campaigns. We've identified near-term and long-term solutions to the regional and statewide housing crisis by bringing together executives, elected officials and community housing leaders. This fall, we are co-leading the $4 billion statewide Housing Bond.

Tech and Innovation

Promoting public-private solutions to security challenges, including the establishment of a Cyber National Guard, working to increase funding for cyber workforce training, and promoting flexible, industry-led security standards.
Clean Energy Supply

Focused on promoting financing and deployment of clean energy and emerging technologies. “Clean Energy” includes promotion of renewable energy, both utility scale and distribution solutions, storage, demand response, energy efficiency, and no-carbon and low-carbon technology such as fuel cells.
Celebrating Wins
Transportation: Regional Traffic Relief (RM3) Takes Leap Forward
The Bay Area Toll Authority voted to place RM3, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s top policy priority, on the June 5th election ballot.

RM3 provides Bay Area residents an opportunity to vote on funding nearly $4.5 Billion worth of major traffic relief projects. Together with the Bay Area Council and SPUR, we are expanding the RM3 coalition in order to lead an effective campaign in every one of the nine Bay Area counties.

If passed in June, RM3 will fund
transformative projects aimed at reducing congestion along freeways through projects including BART to Silicon Valley, extending Caltrain to downtown San Francisco, increasing capacity on the Dumbarton Bridge and fixing the region’s worst freeway bottlenecks.

Housing Solutions Summit
More than 175 business leaders, elected officials, community partners and housing advocates came together on February 9th to focus on solutions to the housing shortage facing the Silicon Valley and greater Bay Area. More than half of the attendees were private sector CEOs, C-suite, or VPs, who committed to solutions they and/or their organizations would consider pursuing in 2018.

The Summit featured nearly 20 solution-oriented presentations and participants selected the solutions to which they would commit their time, talent, and/or treasure.
Thanks to member company Facebook for hosting our Housing Solutions Summit, and to the Bay Area Council for co-leading the event.

Silicon Valley Competitiveness and Innovation
The 2018 Silicon Valley Competitiveness & Innovation Project was released on February 23rd, reinforcing that traffic, housing and education challenges continue to plague our region, but offers some new glimmers of hope when it comes to opportunity and developing a strong workforce in our region.
The Project engages public and private sector leaders who are laying the groundwork for Silicon Valley's transportation future. Senator Jim Beall and labor leader Michael Quigley joined the SVCIP Summit to discuss what the State Legislature’s 2017 transportation funding package means for Silicon Valley's traffic problems.
