PACE SETTERS NEEDED!

GPST is seeking 2-3 skiers age 16+ (with their coaches permission if a junior racer), this means parents are welcome too, who are interested in being pacesetters for the Nastar races this year. This is a paid position.

Pacesetters are needed for Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and Sundays from 1-3pm.  1-2 people are needed for Wednesdays and 2-3 are needed for Sunday afternoons.  We will create a rotation schedule so that not one pacesetter is stuck working each week.

What is a pacesetter?

Every NASTAR race has a pacesetter that sets the Par Time before each race.  The handicap a racer earns is the percentage their time is behind the par time.   With this handicap,  NASTAR racers can compare their race results to other competitors at the same resort, other racers in their state of residence and nationally regardless of when and where they race.  If you are concerned that you would not make a good pacesetter because you're not an advanced racer, that is not the case.  Pacesetters do not need to be the fastest racers, but they must be consistent.  A mid level racer that skis at the same skill level each race is much better than a top level racer who "goes for it" each week but may not be as consistent.  If you have raced Nastar and regularly score in the silver level, you have the skill level to be a pacesetter.

Do I need to be super fast?

Not at all.

Can I be a pacesetter and be in adult league?

You can be a pacesetter for Sundays; this will not effect your team scores and races for Wednesdays.

What are important dates and other info I should know?

The trials are on Saturday, Dec 17 at Afton Alps.  This is a "free" event, as Nastar covers the lift tickets.  So far, we have Tim Schneider and Jeff Tobin going.  Our goal is to have 2-3 more people go to this event.  It's the best way to get certified.  This is an urgent matter, we need commitment by Dec. 10th.  On Dec. 17th, all will car pool to Afton in the Schneider minivan.  Leaving at 6am and returning by 8pm (weather permitting).

Please respond to this email or call Tim Schneider at 715.302.8748 if you have any questions.
