         50 years a growing
        Congratulations VSI!

VSI is celebrating 50 years of working for peace and international understanding during 2015.  We were founded in 1965 by a group of active volunteers and organised 2 international volunteer projects that summer in Dublin and on the border of Leitrim/Fermanagh. During 2015 we want to celebrate; to raise the profile of VSI; to reconnect with past members/volunteers; to revitalise VSI; to seek fundraising possibilities through events (see 50 years online project below). If you would like to get involved in a local or national event please contact Tom Ryder at the VSI office. More details

Sad News about Mary White
We have learned of the tragic death in a cycling accident in Dublin in November last of Mary White an active VSI volunteer. She volunteered from 1998 to 2004 in Finland, India and Sri Lanka. Afterwards she was active with the preparation of volunteers going to Asia for several years. We send our sympathies to her family and friends.

Young People, 2015 and Beyond Feb 10 Dublin
Members of the Teenage Programme will attend and speak at the National Youth Council of Ireland's event, "Young People, 2015 and Beyond on February 10th. The event aims to gather young people with youth and community workers, policy makers and politicians to share their ideas on the kind of world goals governments should be developing for a shared, better future. Our members will speak about last year's Dialogue for Change project, which explored the issues faced by young people seeking asylum in Ireland.

Year of Inclusion
The Italian branch of SCI has just received funding for a long-term project, "The Year of Inclusion" which focuses on Youth and Social Inclusion and which the Teenage Programme of VSI will take an active part in. The project will include a seminar in Rome in April, a training for volunteer youth leaders in May, and another seminar in October, as well as job shadowing placements for volunteers interested in developing their skills in social inclusion work.

More updates from the programme will follow our planning meeting next week.

50 Years of VSI - Online Project - Call for Volunteers
Do you have a strong interest in history, journalism, digital media or web design? VSI is looking for volunteers to assist with a digital history project taking place to coincide with our 50th anniversary celebrations. Throughout 2015, we will be exploring the VSI archives and reconnecting with past members to get an understanding of the major episodes in VSI's history. We are looking for a small team of dedicated volunteers to help research, write and showcase a series of articles about VSI from the '60s to the present day. If you are interested in finding out more about the project, please email/or contact Tom Ryder at VSI -
