Joining the Annual Forum slate of confirmed speakers is Texas native, James Benham, President and CEO of JBKnowledge, Inc. James is an exciting and engaging speaker who is one of the most respected technology experts in the construction industry.  In 2014 he was named to the ENR Texas and Louisiana Top 20 Under 40 for his achievements in construction technology.  James will be a keynote speaker on April 15th at the Annual Forum.

In addition to James, we are excited to announce the addition of two new speakers to the Annual Forum schedule.  Melissa Moreno, CPC and Jeff Esgar, CPC of Sundt Construction, Inc.  Melissa is the Corporate Director of Continuous Improvement and a Certified Professional Constructor.  Jeff is a Senior Project Manager, Southwest Division and is also a Certified Professional Constructor.  Melissa and Jeff will be presenting a session titled Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement.

Here is a brief rundown of their session: "Within the last six years Sundt has taken significant strides towards not only utilizing more Lean tools in our daily activities, but recognizing that sustaining Lean requires that it be incorporated into our culture. This is Sundt’s ongoing journey to embrace Lean into our everyday way of life and how we are incorporating it into our overall Continuous Improvement."

Have some fun at the Annual Forum Welcome Reception

While we are excited about all of the great sessions and speakers planned for the Annual Forum, we are equally excited about all of the fun planned for attendees.  Since they do things big in Texas, we figured we should go big for this year's Welcome Reception.  This year we are heading down to the historic Ft. Worth Stockyards to watch the Ft. Worth Herd Cattle Drive.  After some time exploring the historic district we head over to Billy Bob's, the world's largest honky tonk.  At Billy Bob's we will have a private room where attendees will enjoy great food and drinks as well as an opportunity to meet their fellow attendees.  The Welcome Reception is included in the registration fee, guests are welcome, but require pre-registration.  Transportation will be provided to and from the Hilton Hotel.

Dear Mr. Ethics

Dear Mr. Ethics,
We are involved in one of those government projects that provide us with a monetary reimbursement for every disadvantaged business we hire.  We are now being threatened with project termination because we did something good.  The owner of one of disadvantaged businesses died suddenly.  The heirs were going to shut down the company so we stepped in to keep the employees working by paying them directly.  We thought that was the ethical thing to do.  The government says we assumed control of the company to keep that reimbursement going.  I thought there were supposed to get good karma for acting ethically.
Regards, Ethically Punished
Dear Punished,
There is no guarantee you will be rewarded for acting ethically.  That also should not be the reason you act ethically.  Also, acting ethically is perceived differently by different parties.  The employees see your actions as ethical but the government wanted to see you advise it of what was occurring.  By not disclosing your actions the government views your action as unethical.   Think in the broadest terms possible when faced with an ethical situation.  I think I am a broken record because of my advocacy of advising a project owner of everything.
