Twenty-Five Construction Professionals Awarded the Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) Designation

The AIC congratulates the 25 individuals who become CPC certified as a result of passing the April 2014 Examination. To become certified as a CPC, an individual must have over 8 years of qualifying experience and education and pass a comprehensive examination based on the Constructor Body of Knowledge.
The 8 hour examination was held April 5, 2014 at over 70 locations across the United States. In addition, 1,050 Associate Constructor (AC) certification examinations were administered, including over 900 University Students who qualified for the examination.  The AC examination is the first level of AIC’s Constructor Certification Program.
The CPC examination tests problem-solving abilities that require application of knowledge, analysis, and synthesis at the level of an experienced constructor. Passing the CPC exam distinguishes an individual as a Professional Constructor - someone who possesses the skills and knowledge acquired by education and experience to manage the execution of all or a substantial portion of a construction project. A Professional Constructor is an individual committed to serve the construction industry in a professional and ethical manner and engage in a continued development of skills and education to meet increasing industry challenges and changes.
“I congratulate our newest CPCs. The CPC credential is the mark of a professional and earning it is a great accomplishment.  With the ever increasing support and recognition of the CPC credential in the industry, having earned it will pay dividends for these individuals as they continue their career.”  Said AIC Constructor Certification Commission Chairman Matthew Conrad, CPC.
The next CPC examination is October 25, 2014; registration will open online in June 2014.

Mr. Ethics

Dear Mr. Ethics,

A project owner has asked us to come back to a project we completed 3 years ago.  The owner is reporting water leaking in through an area of the roof where the mechanical equipment is located.  This is a long term client of ours and they want us to help determine where the leak is coming from.  My project manager is uneasy about going to the site since it has been so long since project close out.  She thinks there may be some risk we are missing if we do as asked.  I think we need to aid this client.  Which one of us is right?

AIC Membership Update

Recently, the AIC announced several changes to it's membership structure.  These changes included the removal of the Constructor and Associate Membership levels and the addition of the Professional and Young Professional Memberships.  These changes are in regards to Membership only and do not affect the Certification status of any CPCs or ACs.

Some of the questions that have been asked by Members have included what the dues price will be for these new memberships.  Today we are happy to share that dues will be reduced.

New Dues Amounts
Professional Member - $250
Young Professional Member - $125

Previous Dues Amounts
Constructor Member - $275
Associate Member - $160

Individuals that are Certified as a CPC or AC that are not currently an AIC Member will still be required to pay the yearly CPD Fee of $75.  If you are Certified and a Member of the AIC your CPD Fees will continue to be waived.  CPCs and ACs are encouraged to join the AIC as a full member so they can receive a wider range of benefits and services, including free and discounted CPD Credits and waived CPD Fees.

Transferring into New Membership Classes
Another question that has been asked by Members has been what will happen to Associate Members who are over the age of 30 that do not fit into the Young Professional Membership class?  Realizing this is a change that may appear that not all members will benefit from the reduced membership dues, we want to assure those in this situation will not be forced into a higher dues rate.  The AIC will move all Associate Members into the Young Professional Membership where they will have the new dues rate of $125 per year.  Those over the age of 30 can remain in that membership class until they are ready to move into the Professional Membership class.  This is our commitment to our members to ensure we are providing the value they deserve in an AIC Membership.

If you have any questions about these changes and how they may affect you please do not hesitate to contact Joe Sapp at
