Thanks for reading this month's newsletter!
We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped the library through donations of money, gifts, personal time, and more. Last year’s annual campaign raised over $6,000 in donations. THANK YOU!
The library continued its effort to be the center of the Charleston community by focusing on our four pillars:

We are connecting with our community by partnering with local organizations and groups. We are grateful to continue working with the EIU Civic Engagement and Volunteerism Office to help provide the Grandma’s Got Gmail and Homebound Delivery programs, and we are thrilled to see the expansion of the Urban Butterfly Initiative, which has turned Charleston into the butterfly capital of Illinois! We were able to connect with our community by attending events throughout the year with booths at Musefest, the First Annual Truck Convoy benefiting Make-A-Wish Foundation, the EIU Volunteer Fair, and Kids Day at EIU.
The Library strives to create a space for artists and crafters. This year, we saw the completion of our 40,320 piece jigsaw puzzle, which our community spent 17 months assembling. It is 6 ½ feet tall and 23 feet long and now hangs in our Craft Room. We continuously offer crafting programs for all ages, including Make & Take, Teen Craftivity, and adult craft nights. Summer Read kicked off with children creating pendulum paintings which hang in KidSpace, and throughout the summer, children completed a sticker mosaic of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
We promoted over 10,100 hours of reading from 707 participants via It’s Showtime at Your Library—our Summer Read program! During Summer Read, we offered a total of 65 programs and had 1,131 attendees. Thank you again to our 15 local sponsors. At the Charleston Middle School, we participated in Books & Bites—a program focused on promoting a selection of titles during the students’ lunch hour. We were excited to host the Prairie Stitchers annual quilt exhibit and the Cultivating Creativity 2019-2020: Consolidated Communications Children’s Art Exhibition.
We encourage learning for every age, from Books & Babies, a story time program designed for children 0 - 36 months old, to the programs provided from the Academy of Lifelong Learning, which we are always thrilled to host. And library staff spent over 200 hours learning as part of our staff development efforts, ensuring that the Charleston Carnegie Public Library staff continues to provide the wide variety of unique and compelling programs, services, and materials all of you deserve.
As the director of the Charleston Carnegie Public Library, I could not be more proud of the work this staff has done, and I could not be more excited for what the future holds.
Please consider joining us in our effort to continue to
in all areas of the library by making a donation to the
Charleston Carnegie Public Library.
Thank you!
