Register for IWALK Month! Participate in our Fall/Winter Webinar Series! Green Your Back To School! Are we Driving our Kids to Unhealthy Habits?

October is International Walk to School Month!

Registration is now open for IWALK Month.  Visit our website to register.  It takes only minutes and we will supply your school with materials and information to get you started, including posters, great event ideas, and more.  Your students can even Walk the Globe... an exciting program that partners Canadian schools with participating International Walk to School Week (iWalk) schools across Canada, the United States and countries within Europe, Africa and the Americas, to share their experiences of walking to school.

Are We Driving Our Kids To Unhealthy Habits?

The 2013 Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth is on the subject of Active Transportation and how the rise in car-dependent trips to and from school have impacted children’s physical activity levels.

See the full blog post here, and consider participation in our October 9th Webinar:  Pulling Up Our Socks:  Manitoba and the Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card.

More information is included in the "webinars" section on the right hand side of the newsletter.

LearningGreen, LearningWell

Our children are naturally concerned about environmental issues and many are eager to get involved.  They need help, support and reassurance that their participation can make a difference. Green Action Centre has many suggestions, examples and tips about how to “green” your school.  Visit our "At School" page for more information!

 Environmental  Speakers  Bureau

Green Action Centre's Environmental Speakers Bureau offers classroom presentations for schools in Winnipeg.  Topics include recycling, litterless lunches, composting, climate change, water and the ecological footprint concept.  See the complete list on our website.  Presentations are age-appropriate for Nursery – Grade 12.
