Hello Commuter Challenge Coordinators! (If you are no longer your workplace coordinator, please forward this email to the new coordinator, and copy me so that I can keep them updated!)

If you are reading this email it means two things:

  1. You are an awesome person. Congrats on that!
  2. It’s time to register for the Commuter Challenge 2016!

Hopefully you remember taking part in the Commuter Challenge in past years, but if you’re like me and can’t remember where you put your keys 10 minutes ago, the next few sentences are for you my friend! Commuter Challenge (June 5 to 11 this year) is a national program that encourages Canadians to walk, cycle, take transit, carpool (ride share) or telecommute instead of driving alone to their workplace. The Challenge supports workplaces as they encourage their employees to leave their cars at home for their personal health, the health of their communities and the health of the environment!

Along with a few other things (for instance identifying the difference between potholes, small craters and the beginnings of a tunnel to China) Manitoba is particularly good at this Challenge. We win nationally every year (well 12 out of the last 13 anyway), and a dozen national titles later we’ve decided to add a little more local spice to the event (no, not stinging nettle). Just in case a national win doesn’t come with the pizzazz it did 12 years ago, this year we are creating a Manitoba Intersectoral Competition. Finance, law, education, agriculture, hospitality - whatever your organization identifies with, we are pitting you against your cohort organizations! Because who doesn't love well deserved bragging rights?
The Commuter Challenge website is ready for you to register again this year (workplace)(individual). After registering your workplace, Green Action Centre will help you inspire and recruit your colleagues with great ideas, promotional posters, and templates for you to use!  There are exciting prizes to be won, including a $500 travel voucher for VIA Rail, tickets to the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Interstellar Rodeo, Folklorama, and Winnipeg Fringe, and many more prizes still piling up as the event draws near!

Free Lunch!!
Our Workplace Coordinators Orientation lunch will be held on May 18th at the Millennium Library. We will eat lunch, review those registration and website navigation details (sometimes a little dry but always helpful), take a look at the resources available on the Green Action website and finally we will bring a little life to the afternoon with ideas to encourage participation. Attendees will be entered to win prizes. Please RSVP to by Tuesday May 16, 5pm.
