Dear Members & Friends of Community Reformed Church:
‘Tis the season for email scams. Fortunately, most spam filters catch these emails and you’ll never see them. Unfortunately, scammers often use the name of someone you know and trust in the email header to get your attention. Pastor Trent’s name has been used by scammers in the past, and yesterday was no exception. Don’t fall for it. Do not reply. Delete the email. Remember, it’s most likely a scam if you ever receive an email:
- from a familiar name, sometimes a pastor (especially if it’s uppercase) in the From line,
i.e. From: PASTOR TRENT WALKER and
- sent from an unfamiliar address, i.e. churchcare0119@gmail.com
- with your name (especially if it’s uppercase) in the Subject line, i.e. Subject: JOHN & JANE DOE
- asking you to click a link or respond back via email
- that sounds impersonal, often with poor punctuation and grammar
Have a good and safe weekend!
