Good Day sisters and brothers of Community Church! Pastor Greg here! Today’s checking in is about ‘Temptation’ and is especially focused on the Men of Community Reformed Church. You may ask why do I bring this topic up in my check-in this week? The answer is straightforward & simple, I have read through organizations like KingdomWorks, and the fact and sober realization is that the COVID 19 pandemic has contributed to a significant increase in pornography and inappropriate behaviors.
The question guys, is how do you resist temptation? The fact is this is a heart problem and the only way to deal with that is through refocusing and a re-channeling of the heart through the power of the Holy Spirit and that comes through God’s Word. Isolation has caused many to revert to actions that are not God-honoring and certainly not edifying to a life in Christ. Maybe you are struggling. Maybe this touches you and nobody else knows as one hides in the crevices of intimacy and privacy of the internet. I would like to offer the best arsenal in helping you refocus in this time: the power of Scripture and allowing the Spirit to work in your hearts.
Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Colossians 3:1-5: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ set your hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is, your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed which is idolatry.”
Philippians 4:8: “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.”
Yes, Scripture speaks and it was Jesus, the Word made flesh who took our sin to the cross; “while we were yet sinners Christ died for you and me.” I ask you to bask in the grace and truth of Jesus! So, when you are tempted my brothers Run to His Word…and let it speak to your heart! There is also power in accountability with another brother in Christ. We are called to walk with each other: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16
