Town Hall Meetings

The Reformed Church in America, in recent years, has been wrestling with widening differences in matters of Biblical interpretation, ethics, and polity. To ensure that the members of our congregation have a chance to be educated about the issues facing our denomination, the Elders have invited Rev. Dan Ackerman, Zeeland Classis Leader, to come and speak to us. On Monday, April 26 and Thursday, April 29 there will be a town hall style informational meeting to learn about what our denomination is facing. Each meeting will be held in the Sanctuary and begins at 7pm. These meetings are not intended for discussion or debate, they are simply an opportunity to become familiar with the current issues within our denomination.

Myrt Garvelink passed away on April 15th.  Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Ruth Hertz (110 S. Zeeland Parkway, Zeeland) fell earlier this week and suffered a brain bleed. She fell again when she got home from the hospital, had some seizures, and returned to Spectrum for observation. She is also struggling with dementia.

Dorothy DeRoo (10372 Holiday Dr., Zeeland) is in the hospital, dealing with the flu and being treated for sepsis.

Jim VanHuis (9505 Crescent Dr., Zeeland) had a heart attack on Monday, and they found a blockage in a spot where they could not put a stent, so he had open heart bypass surgery.  Surgery went well, one bypass, with 90% blockage. They are incredibly grateful!

Melissa VanHoven (9000 Ransom St., Zeeland) is in the hospital with an infection, in ICU, and on a ventilator. Prayers are appreciated that she may heal quickly and return home soon!

Alaine Mast’s (610 Sand Hollow Dr., Holland 49423) rotator cuff surgery was successful, the tear was repaired, so she is very happy and resting at home.  Her arm will be up in the unremovable sling for 9 weeks.

Melissa Overway (1867 92nd Ave., Zeeland) had Mohs surgery to remove a basal cell spot on her scalp, and they had clean margins in the first stage.  Praise God!

Paula Glass (12055 Croswell, West Olive 49460) has an appointment at Metro Hospital on April 22nd in hopes to determine the cause of the pain in her abdomen. Please pray for answers and relief from pain.

Austin Boersema (3484 Sage Creek Dr., Zeeland) will have targeted radiation on a spot on his back soon and is also waiting on information about a new clinical trial.

Barb Graveling (257 Taft St., Zeeland) Her recent bone scan showed an area on her skull that they looked at more closely earlier this week, and they are awaiting results.

Larry & Priscilla Blackburn, grandparents of Caden Blackburn and Gospel Community Church congregants, have both been admitted to the hospital due to COVID.  Prayers for healing are appreciated!

Jen Brouwer (1433 Feldspar Ave., Zeeland) is scheduled for the start of reconstruction surgery on May 17th, and after more than a year of chemo treatments every three weeks, they will end on June 22nd.  Jen is also participating in a clinical trial for a cancer vaccine in Indianapolis to prevent reoccurrence and metastasizing to other parts of the body. I appreciate all the prayers, cards, and well wishes on this long journey.

Thank you, Community Church, for all the prayers, calls, and visits during and after my surgery.  John Fritz

Thank you for all of the kind phone calls and uplifting cards we received after the recent passing of our brother-in-law.  A special thank you to our ministers who spent time with our family at both the funeral home and funeral.  Joyce & Ernest Kortering
