GOVERNOR BRANSTAD MAKES A STOP IN ALLAMAKEE COUNTY

On one of Governor Branstad’s business tours of Iowa, he made a stop in Allamakee County on Thursday, April 16th.  Allamakee County Economic Development & Tourism (ACED) had the pleasure of working with the Governor’s office on the business site he would visit.  Hall Roberts’ Son, LLC of Postville was chosen.  Hall Roberts’ Son has been in business for over 150 years and the Governor noted that this business is the second oldest family owned business in Iowa.  The Governor toured the facility and had the pleasure of meeting Hall Roberts, who at 89 still maintains a desk and daily hours at the company.  A gathering of city officials, Postville business leaders and two government classes from the Postville School District were on hand to hear the Governor’s remarks, ask questions and had time to personally visit with the Governor.  ACED would like to thank Chris Hoffert, General Manager and all of the staff of Hall Roberts’ for their wonderful hospitality and refreshments on that afternoon.  The governor makes an effort to visit all 99 counties at least once a year.  Hall Roberts’ Son has been a long standing member and supporter of ACED.

OUR NEW ALLAMAKEE COUNTY MAP

The new Allamakee County Map is now available at the ACED office.  Not only is it a road map of all county roads, but it shows cemeteries and parks.  It has been designed to  include a detailed map of each Allamakee County community as well as highlighting points of interest for each community.

A Big Thank You  to the Allamakee County Assessor's Office, the Allamakee County Engineer's Office and the Iowa Tourism Office for making this project possible.
Concerned About The School Start Bill

On April 10, Governor Branstad signed Senate File 227 into law. The bill states "the school calendar shall begin no sooner than August 23." Students from Indianola and many tourism industry representatives were on hand for the signing.

Participating industry members are the Cedar Rapids CVB, Waterloo CVB, National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Fireside Winery, Dubuque CVB, Living History Farms, Marshalltown CVB, Okoboji Tourism Committee, Greater Des Moines CVB and the Loess Hills Alliance.  A great cross country promotion so be sure to watch for them over the roadways.
