Ribbon UI for v18: Initial Impressions

We had a chance in January to visit PTC for the Technical Committee meetings.  While there, we were able to actually use an early version of Creo Elements/Direct (CoCreate) Modeling v18 and experiment with the new ribbon User Interface.  Most of the people in our session really liked it, with several commenting that they were actually quite surprised that they did like it, as many had used the ribbon UI in MS Office and found it difficult to work with.  In summary, the development team has done a really nice job, as the interface seemed very natural and generally seemed to work quite well.  Here is a screenshot of the v18 UI Main Menu (click image for larger view):

We also had a chance to load some of the AI MAXTools applications into v18, and were very pleased to discover that ... (click here to read the remainder of this article and to see a larger preview of the v18 ribbon UI, including the AI MAXTools menu)

Bright Future for Creo Elements/Direct

As Creo 1.0 moves forward, many have been under the impression that Creo Elements/Direct (CoCreate) will be retired in the near future.  However, Mike Campbell, DVP at PTC, has stated that there are no plans to discontinue the product at this time due to a desire to ensure that all of the powerful functionality that CoCreate users are accustomed to using in the Creo Elements/Direct (CoCreate) platform will be converted into the new Creo direct modeling app.  As the CoCreate platform is the product of more than 18 years of development, there's a great deal of very robust and powerful functionality that will definitely take time to implement in Creo's direct modeling app.

What this means for you is that your investment in the Creo Elements/Direct (CoCreate) platform continues to be secure, and we will continue to be here to support you and to further enhance our products to meet your evolving needs.  If you have any questions about this, just let us know -- we'll help in whatever way we can!
