 short::seasons success!

The re launch of short::seasons autumn 2012 managed to attract nearly 150 people to the National Film and Sound Archive. Many filmmakers and film enthusiaths enjoyed the fabulous night with great films and  live music to fill the evening from Canberra guerilla band The Cashews. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and would like to thank all our sponsers especially the NFSA for making the event possible. Don't forget that we will run another short::seasons in November 2012 so for all those who missed the screening - don't fret! We hope short::seasons will continue to encourage and showcase filmmakers from our community.
 


 Low Budget Feature Pod is coming!


The Low Budget Feature Pod is here! This fantastic opportunity for all levels of filmmakers. In phase one international script consultant Stephen Cleary will take you through what makes a great low budget feature. You'll get the opportunity to work on your own concepts. The top ten concepts will be chosen by an industry panel and will recieve significant support in developing their first draft of a screenplay, budget, finance distribution and marketing plans.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get your idea from the page to the big screen with one team and project getting the opportunity to apply for significant production funding from the ACT Screen Investment Fund.

Remeber to apply for Development Fund!

ScreenACT offers a Development and Marketing Fund where applicants can request funding for script development, project development and/or marketing activities. Please note that this funding is for projects that can expect a commercial return therefore short films are not eligible. 
 

There will be 10 grants of $5,000 awarded in this round.

  • Open: Monday 30th April, 2012   
  • Closing Date: 5.00pm Wednesday 13th June, 2012
  • Announcement: Late July (TBC)

Applications now open for Canberra Short Film Festival 2012

Applications are now open for the Canbera Short Film Festival 2012! This fantastic festival offers many opportunities to up and coming filmmakers with five categories this year: National, Schools, Documentary, International and Canberra Local. Films can be any style, any genre but must be no longer than 20 mins in length. CBC The Business of Art Workshop

This is a workshop specifically designed for artists and designers starting up a business. There are many things to consider when starting up a business – but particularly with an artistic business -important issues such as how to protect your intellectual property, promotion, your online presence, and strategic planning. This workshop will cover all of these topics and more! This workshop will be presented by Sean Creighton from Chamberlains Law Firm, Todd Wright from Threesides, and Michael Talevich from Nexis Business Advisors and Accountants.

Short Film Script Reading Service

ScreenACT is providing a script reading service for $22 for filmmakers who would like to have their script analysed before going into production. National short film award winner Marisa Martin will be critiquing the scripts and will give detailed constructive feedback. This is a great way to improve your script which ultimately improves the film itself. This service provides a great opportunity to get real professional advice without the cost of a professional script editor.

Project Attachment Register

As part of the ACT Screen investment fund, successful projects are required to have Canberran people "attached" to their projects. Attachments are a paid learning experience for people wishing to gain valuable insight into the filmmaking process on a real working set. Attachments can last from two weeks to six months. We are starting a database of people who are interested in taking up attachment places on ACT Screen investment funded projects. Into the Shadows Screening on ABC1

ScreenACT funded documentary Into the Shadows will be screened on ABC1 on 3rd June at 3pm. This 90 minute Canberra produced documentary explores the Australian film industry with interviews from greats such as Andrew Denton and Scott Hicks. The film was directed by Canberra resident, Andrew Scarano, and produced by Scarano and Phil Hignett.  Post-production was completed with assistance from Ronin Films, with Andrew Pike as Consulting Producer. Into the Shadows was given a cinema release in 2009 and received excellent reviews, including a 4 star rating in Empire Magazine with the comment:  “Offers searing insights ... A gripping narrative”.  Empire then ranked it among the 50 “Must See” titles for the year. For more information see www.roninfilms.com.au
