Canberra Film Salt Bridge in Oscar Contention

Seven songs from the Indo-Australian feature film Salt Bridge, that shot in Canberra earlier this year, are among the 74 songs contending for nominations in the Best Original Song category at the 88th Academy Awards.

This is a huge achievement for the film’s composer Rajeev Khandelwal-Usha Jadhav, who wrote all the songs in Hindi. Rajeev worked alongside the film’s writer/director Abhijit Deonath, who produced Salt Bridge in his new hometown of Canberra using mostly local crew. Rajeev Khandelwal, one of Bollywood's most high profile leading men, stars in the film about an Indian man who migrates to Australia with his family and begins a relationship with an Australian woman.

The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on 14 January 2016, and the ceremony will be held on 28 February 2016. For a full list of the songs in contention please visit the Academy's website
