AIDC Registration Grants  

ScreenACT is offering four grants to cover registration at this year's Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) from Feb 25th - 28th.  Only people who have not received an AIDC Registration Grant previously can submit an application. To apply for the grant email us with a one page document outlining:

1. Who you are
2. What projects you propose to take to the AIDC
3. The reason ScreenACT should support your attendance

Crowd Funding Seminar 

Crowd sourced funding is a popular way for those seeking funds to finance creative projects or business ideas. Before you embark down the crowd sourcing route, there are a number of issues you need to consider like what laws you need to comply with, tax implications as well as protecting your IP.

Come and learn in your lunch break what preparation you need to do to ensure your crowd sourcing venture doesn't end up with you in court and your brilliant idea stolen by someone else. 
 
Learn about:
  • How to comply with Australian fundraising law
  • How to protect your IP 
  • Tax implications for crowd sourced funds
  • Gift or profit share? - finding the best model for you
The seminar will be presented by Scott Chamberlains and Shaun Creighton.

ACT Screen Arts Fund Recipients 

The Minister of Arts Joy Burch announced the recipients of the 2013 ACT Screen Arts Fund earlier this week. The nine successful applicants range across a number of genres and mediums including television, documentary, short films and feature films. 
 
The nine screen-based artists and their projects selected for funding are (in no particular order): 
  • Robert Nugent - Glimpses and Specimens from the Land of the Night Parrot
  • Rebecca Filipczyk - Get It Of Your Chest!
  • Deborah Kingsland - Hanna and the Heifers
  • Bruce Davie - Scars
  • James Batchelor - Ersatz
  • Matt Anderson - Eighty-Six
  • Jimmy Ennett - Cult Like Behaviour
  • Andrew Einspruch & Billie Dean - In Conversation with Cows and Sheep: Wisdom from the Paddock
  • By George Studios - Flesh and Blood

No Interest Microcredit Loans and Mentorship Support for Women Entrepreneurs

Time limited interest free loans of up to $3000 are now available for ACT based creative and entrepreneurial women on low incomes. This funding support is designed to enable these women to further develop an existing business or start up a new enterprise.
 
The funding for this program is provided by the ACT Government through the Office for Women, Community Services Directorate.
 
Applications are due by 11 February 2013.

Project Attachment Register

Part of a condition of being funded through the ACT Screen Investment Fund is for a production to take on "attachments".  An attachment is a paid position which gives the attached person experience and credits.  This attachment program is designed to help the ACT build capacity in various positions.  n most cases, productions will take on a number of attachments but would require that the attachee have had some exposure to the role that they are taking on.

The Television Writers Studio 2013

The Television Writers Studio (TVWS) promises three days of the most comprehensive, challenging, fast paced and exciting learning environment for all writers with a belief in their idea and a desire to create great content for the small screen.
 
The US instructors will include Jen Grisanti, Ellen Sandler, Carole Kirschner and Steve Kaplan - who are among the most respected and sought after teachers of television writing and producing in the world today. Each of them have a wealth of experience writing and producing Emmy award winning television series and developing series ideas for major networks and cable, including HBO, NBC, Disney, Spelling Entertainment, CBS and the ABC.

Short Film Script Reading Service

Need help with developing your short film script? ScreenACT is providing a script reading service for $22 for filmmakers who would like to have their script analysed before going into production. National short film award winner Marisa Martin will be critiquing the scripts and will give detailed constructive feedback. This is a great way to improve your script which ultimately improves the film itself. This service provides a great opportunity to get real professional advice without the cost of a professional script editor.

Screen Australia Announces New Enterprise Asia Program

A new business facilitation program has been announced by Screen Australia as part of the Enterprise suite of programs. Over the next two years, Enterprise Asia will support Australian screen businesses to travel to key Asian territories including Malaysia, Korea and China, and present projects they have in development or production.

FLiCKERLAB 2013  

In January 2013, Flickerfest International Short Film Festival will present Flickerlab a smorgasboard, of hot tips, the latest trends and the lowdown on the skills that you need to develop your creative film ideas and make them real. At this one-day lab, across 4 sessions, participants can learn from the experts and absorb the experience, the knowledge and the wisdom of our leading filmmakers as they take you on a journey from concept to script, through to production, markets and audiences on different platforms.

After the sessions, there will be networking drinks with the panelists and filmmakers from the festival, which will be followed by the evening’s Flickerfest screenings.

The cost of Flickerlab is $50 for the day, or $45 concession for students & unemployed.

Flickerlab will be on Friday 18th January, 2013, from 10.00am, at Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach, Sydney.
