Save the Date for A-Z Budget Seminar

Sandra Alexander will be hosting a seminar on Screen Australia's A-Z Budget. She will analyse and break the budget down to show producers and directors how to complete the budget properly. Sandra's experience as a line producer has given her immense experience in budget creation and handling Sandra has been a Line Producer/Production Manager of feature films and television projects in Australia and New Zealand including RETURN TO EDEN, THE LAST FRONTIER, FRAUDS, MARLIN BAY, LIFT OFF, SINGAPORE SLING, SOFT FRUIT, THE BET and SEPTEMBER (Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals). From time to time she is a consultant to Screen Australia, Screen NSW, the federal government’s Office for the Arts, the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal and Ausfilm. For those who want to budget their film successfully, come and listen to Sandra's experience and advice on this essential document.

Business Seminar with Marisa Martin 


Marisa Martin of Enemies of Reality (EoR) Media is conducting a seminar discussing her experiences developing and running a small business in the Canberra region.  Marisa has been operating her successful small business for 8 years and is currently in the process of producing her own television series. This is a great opportunity to hear from someone who's been through the business startup phase and has a great story to tell! You'll also get the chance to network with other like minded individuals and learn about their experience.

short::seasons film festival

ElementaryEmerging 
The short::seasons film festival is back!  Showcasing the work of up and coming filmmakers from the Canberra Region since 2001, ScreenACT is bringing back the popular festival.  short::seasons brings together  filmmakers, animators and documentarians in a twice a year, non-competitive screening of short works.  Screenings this year will take place at the Arc Cinema at the National Film and Sound Archive.  short::seasons is currently calling for submissions for the autumn'012 festival.  Deadline is Monday 2nd April.  Check out the short::seasons site for all the info.   

Lights! Canberra! Action! Winners

Congratulations and a big thank you to all participants and attendents to view the top 12 last Friday night. The list of winners can be found here. Congratulations especially to Christian Doran for Best Film and Jimmy Ennett for ScreenACT funded Best Student Film.

For those who did not make the top 12 please do not hestitate to submit your films to short:seasons by 2nd April.

The top 12 films will be screened again at the Encore screening on 27th April.

Flickerfest Tours Canberra

Flickerfest 2012 best international short films come to Canberra! Flickerfest will be touring the country screening the best of the best short films. Opening night drinks on Saturday 24th March so come and celebrate Australia's short film talent.

Short Film Script Reading Service

ScreenACT is providing a script reading service for $22 for filmmakers who would like to have their script analysed before going into production. National short film award winner Marisa Martin will be critiquing the scripts and will give detailed constructive feedback. This is a great way to improve your script which ultimately improves the film itself. This service provides a great opportunity to get real professional advice without the cost of a professional script editor.

Project Attachment Register

As part of the ACT Screen investment fund, successful projects are required to have Canberran people "attached" to their projects. Attachments are a paid learning experience for people wishing to gain valuable insight into the filmmaking process on a real working set. Attachments can last from two weeks to six months. We are starting a database of people who are interested in taking up attachment places on ACT Screen investment funded projects. NFSA-ACS John Leake Emerging Cinematographers Award


The Australian Cinematographers Society and National Film and Sound Archive present the John Leake OAM Award aimed at Emerging Cinematographers. The NFSA-ACS John Leake OAM ACS Award, will provide a cash prize of $5000 to an emerging cinematographer who is either currently studying cinematography at a tertiary institution or is currently working in the film industry, and is a member of the ACS. The winner of the Award, to be announced at the ACS National Awards in Sydney on Saturday May 5, can use the prize for any educational, training, or professional work which will further his or her cinematographic knowledge. This is a great opportunity for emerging cinematographers to get their name and projects out in the industry. Applications close Friday 6th April

In order to make it easier for you to identify which of the many programs is most suitable, we have broken down the programs by experience level.  After deciding which level is most appropriate for you, keep an eye on that colour badge to easily identify which programs are aimed at screen practitioners like you!

· People with less than three years experience of making screen content of any kind.

· A few festival credits for short films or music videos,
