DocoPOD: Documentary
Development Program

Have a great idea for a documentary?

So you want to make a documentary, but what sort of documentary? What are the stages you must go through to take it from an exciting idea, to a finished film? How do you find your characters and maintain an authentic and trusting relationship? How do you successfully pitch your project? Where will you get the money to make your film? Who will buy it? Where will it be screened?

Independent producer
Susan McKinnon (Paul Kelly – Stories of MeLife in MovementThe Oasis) will be visiting Canberra this weekend (29–30 August) to answer these questions at ScreenACT’s DocoPOD, a 2-day development workshop. Susan will also give a studied overview of what is currently happening in the world of documentary, and what options are available to emerging filmmakers. DocoPOD participants will also have an opportunity to share their documentary ideas with Susan, and receive expert feedback.

Working with China:
Film Workshop

The global interest in China’s film industry has grown exponentially in recent years as the economic powerhouse expands its investment into film production both locally and internationally. ScreenACT will be hosting a 1-day workshop on Saturday 12 September that aims to help film professionals learn more about the Chinese film industry, and how to take advantage of these new opportunities.

Working with China - Film Workshop will be facilitated by local producer Cindy Li (CEO of JIA Films), and will provide insights into the massive cultural and market differences between China and Australia, and how to negotiate these challenges.

In addition to looking at the business aspects of working with China (including international co-productions), the workshop will also provide a platform for screenwriters seeking work in developing projects for the Chinese market.

PLEASE NOTE: For those unable to attend in person a live webcast of the day's activities will be available. Normal registration costs will apply.
