Michigan Youths, High School Students To Question Candidates at 4 Statewide Forums

During the 2014 campaign season, Michigan’s Children is working through the Sandbox Party to listen to what candidates are saying and to engage and inform more voters in the election process. However, we don’t often hear candidates talk about many issues that matter to children, youth and families.
To remedy this, we’ve partnered with Michigan Radio’s powerful State of Opportunity project to conduct a series of candidate forums with youths from local communities playing a central role.  The forums are taking place in different areas of the state – Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Mt. Clemens -- but all are led by young people asking important questions of candidates for Michigan House and Senate races.
We are thrilled to announce these community events – with the first taking place in Kalamazoo on Thursday, Sept. 25.  Will you help support this exciting project by sharing this information with your networks, and by attending one of the candidate forums near you?
To our knowledge, this is a first-of-its-kind community event in recent memory.  In each case we’ve partnered with local organizations who are working to help young people, many from challenged backgrounds, improve their lives and achieve their goals.
Here is a list of the forums taking place through October.  So consider joining us at an event near you.  Help support Michigan youths as they hone their skills at civic involvement and encourage this year's crop of candidates to consider issues involving children, youth and families in Michigan.
