Our Holiday Appeal

Your Gift to Michigan's Children This Year Helps Us Fight for a Brighter Future for Michigan Children, Youth and Families

In a renovated gallery in a largely Hispanic-American neighborhood in southeast Grand Rapids, teens as young as 13 stood before candidates for state legislative office.  They asked questions about investments in education in inner-city schools, immigration reform and its impact on families, bullying, and suggested ways to engage youth voices more consistently in state policy decisions.

One of four remarkable teen-led candidate forums Michigan’s Children sponsored around the state in 2014, the forum was at the heart of Michigan’s Children’s overall mission.  That is, to raise the profile of issues facing children, youth and families, and work for common-sense policy changes that give all children an equitable chance to thrive from cradle to career.

That’s why we are appealing to you today to ask for your help to ensure our state’s children and families have a better future, one in which all children have a great chance for success in school and life. As an independent voice for public policy opportunities that truly make child
ren and families a priority in this state, Michigan’ Children receives no government funding and relies on private donations from people like you.

For more than 20 years we’ve served as a non-partisan advocate leader to bring concerns facing the most challenged children, youth and families to the forefront.

Among our successes was helping to ensure that tens of thousands of eligible Michigan 4-year-olds have access to the Great Start Readiness Program by pushing for $130 million more in state funding. This year we expanded our outreach by bringing the grassroots-based Sandbox Party  under our leadership, engaging even more constituents in public policy conversations.

As a new state Legislature and new Congress assume responsibility  in January, the opportunity to educate policymakers about necessary, evidence-based programs and services that truly help children, youth and families begins again.  The challenge of engaging more people in the policymaking process also remains before us.

A financial gift from you will be a big help to ensure that Michigan families have a strong and effective voice in our state and national capitals. With your support, we will make Michigan a great state to be a child, and a great state to raise a family.
