Shelly Vendiola, WPJC's Keynote Speakers for International Day of Peace 2021
Beloved community,

I hope that this email finds you well, with a full belly of delicious take-out from Mount Bakery Downtown, as 15% of their proceeds will be donated to WPJC today through the final day of our Take Out for Peace promotion - hurry, they're only open until 3pm!

Today, we close our 5-day long 18th International Day of Peace celebration with the words of wisdom and inspiration from our local peacemaker and honorable Keynote: Shelly Vendiola! For 30 years Shelly has served as an educator, facilitator, activist, and mediator. She co-founded the native Community Engagement and Peacemaking Project and provides facilitation and community engagement services in strategic planning, dispute resolution, and peacemaking circles throughout the country. If you'd like to view this conversation after 6 p.m. today, a recording will be available on our Youtube page, Facebook and and website.

I wanted to thank each one of you for making today's event possible. I could feel the warmth of your presence last Sunday, when the sun shined at 3PM sharp at Maritime Heritage Park, brightening the beginning of our program and Lifetime Peacemaker Awardee James Loucky, MC Vicky Matey, DJ Will and Antonio from Rumba Northwest. If you couldn't be there in person, we're hoping to share photos and the recording of this live celebration soon at our website. You can also check the updated list of endorsed actions we prepared with the support of our grassroots info fair partners for this year's celebration at: whatcompjc.org/idp2021 At our in person event, we asked you to pledge to act, reflect on how these actions are connected to our collective liberation, and what are the challenges for keeping each other engaged, aware and inspired to act. Today, we invite you to share your answers with your family, colleagues, roommates or pod and invite them to take action with us. As James Loucky said in his remarks at Maritime Park this Sunday, hope is a verb - so let's keep practicing it!

You can still donate online and bid on some of the exclusive deals we're offering through our Virtual Silent Auction including a local several-courses beachside dinner for two, art pieces from all over the globe donated by our Awardee James Loucky and more at: https://www.accelevents.com/e/rad-real-turning-imagination-into-action--18th-annual-international-day-of-peace until the end of the month.

In Peace and solidarity,

Aline Prata

PS: Thank you for being so flexible as we adjust our program to the ever-changing conditions of a global pandemic. Our flexibility and bold determination to make this world more just and peaceful are what brings us together with the certainty that we shall win!
