ANNOUNCEMENTS

Calling all branch presidents: we hope that you'll forward these AMWA Student NewsFlashes to your local branch members!

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Komal Paladugu, National Student Secretary

Hello all! As we are immersed in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, lets remember to reflect on the 12th anniversary of September 11th. Recall where you were when you heard the news, your thoughts of those closest to you and gratefulness if they were safe, and the gratitude to all those risking their lives to save others. Every day in the medical world, our patients and their families experience life-altering news, a moment they will remember distinctly. Imagine how you would want that news to be shared and how your words and actions can impart a positive or negative memory and attitude about their future. So reflect on September 11th about how more kindness and understanding in this world can help break down our barriers, how our differences are what make us unique, and how we can work together to become greater than by ourselves. Make an effort to show compassion to patients and co-workers to help make the world a better place  Any ideas for improvement?  Feel free to contact me

Region 8 Spotlight
By Lisa Wadowski, Region 8 Director

This fall, The University of Arizona COM-Phoenix’s AMWA branch is screening a video on the film “Branded,” a 45-minute documentary film about the realities of sex trafficking in Phoenix. Sex trafficking is one of Arizona’s fastest growing industries, generating millions of dollars every year. One program that helps deal with this important issue and get young sex workers off the streets is “StreetLight USA.” This program is designed to get child victims out of the business of sex trafficking and back to a normal life. The organization addresses child sex trafficking through awareness, prevention, and direct care. After the screening of “Branded”, the producer and former sex worker will talk about the current situation in Phoenix. We will ask students to bring (young) women’s clothing, gift cards, or cash to donate. For more information, please visit Street Light's website.
