Upcoming Leadership Elections!
 

Elections for National and Regional Leadership Positions are quickly approaching! If you would like to get more involved with AMWA please consider applying for one of our many leadership positions. Please see here for a list of the current leadership and position opportunities. Feel free to reach out to any current leader for more information on their role and responsibilities.

DEADLINE EXTENSION! Student Poster Presentations: Call for Abstracts Now Open!

Student poster presentations are often the highlight of the AMWA conference for students, residents and physicians alike. The submission deadline has been EXTENDED until December 22nd. For more information on submission guidelines please click here.

All posters are eligible for the Young Women in Science Award: created in 2008 and funded by Wyeth and Roberta Rubin, the award recognizes outstanding student achievement in basic science and research. These awards are given to the first through third place winners of the student poster presentation at the AMWA Annual Meeting.

The Student Programming Committee is looking for dedicated AMWA members! Available roles include organizing conference volunteers, planning student mixers, coordinating room sharing and planning mentoring sessions for pre-medical students.

The Linda Brodsky MD Essay Award is now open!

The essay prompt is: "Write about hardships and/or difficult or challenging situations that you encountered during medical school that made you question your career path or consider leaving medical school."

The winner of the contest will be awarded $500 at the Annual Meeting and will have their essay published in the next edition of AMWA's Linda Brodsky Memorial Journal.  The winner will also receive a complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting and a travel grant to cover transportation costs!

Email your completed essay as an attached document to awards@amwa-student.org. Please include your full name, medical school, year in school, and first year of national AMWA membership. Essays are limited to 1000 words.

Opportunity to Assist in Pre-Medical Mentorship
 

AMWA's Pre-Medical Student Division is working on a guide for its members with advice on several different topics. They are looking for medical student contributors who are able to help by providing information on the following topics:

 
How to pick which medicals to apply for
How to pick the best medical school for you
Medical school scholarships, grants & loans
Gap years
Post-Baccalaureate programs
Military medicine

iGIANT Program and AMWA

The AMWA Student Division is working with the iGIANT program - impact Gender/Sex on Innovation and Novel Technologies.  We are looking for students to help set up roundtables in the following cities:  Las Vegas, Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Detroit, and New York City.  In this role, you will help identify strategic leaders to invite to the roundtables, to send out the invitation, to monitor and follow up on the RSVP's and to prepare the agenda and attendee lists.  Advantages include working with leaders in many different fields and expansion of your own network. We hope to have dates for these roundtables in the Fall or early Spring.
