MENTORSHIP
Participate in the mentorship committee's newest initiative, #AskOmega, by submitting a question or situation you’ve recently experienced that you would like assistance on. Dr. Silva is a lifetime AMWA member and a large women’s health advocate. She has faced and overcome numerous challenges in her career, especially at a time when women were underrepresented in the medical field. Her goal is to empower AMWA members and assist them in triumphing through situations in their own professional career and growth.
Spring Awards Cycle is Now Open!  Applications are now being accepted for Spring awards, scholarships, and grants.  For more details see the Awards page here.

Additionally, do you have an exceptional mentor that has helped you throughout your medical school career or impacted you personally?  Consider nominating them for an Exceptional Mentor AwardAdditional info can be found here.
JANUARY PROGRAMMING IDEAS
Cervical Health Awareness Month
The National Cervical Cancer Coalition has several ideas to help spread awareness: distribute NCCC’s cervical cancer/HPV press release to state and local media and enlist radio stations to announce Public Service Announcements on cervical cancer and HPV. To receive the press release and “Print”, here.

If you have any photos to share from your AMWA events, please send them to Allison Ikeda, programming@amwa-student.org.
Lots is happening on the legislative front for women. Click here to learn more about equal pay laws, preventing suicide for women veterans, funding for Planned Parenthood, and a resolution that enhances protection of children who have been trafficked.
MEET THE PROGRAMMING CHAIR
Allison Ikeda is currently a member of the Class of 2018 at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to starting to medical school, she worked at the National Institutes of Health, focusing on malaria and sickle cell disease. Her research projects took her abroad to work in Blantyre, Malawi, which solidified her decision to pursue medicine. She hopes to pursue a career in clinical research, focusing on diseases that disproportionately affect underserved patient populations, and involves expanding their access to health care.
