NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Cherilyn Cecchini, National Secretary

I can hardly believe that summer is coming to a close! It seems as though I just started first year and was just presented with my white coat.  Meeting the incoming first years has been exciting and I am hoping to ease their fears as they begin their medical education!  I am also looking forward to reuniting with my colleagues and to beginning my journey as a second year student! AMWA has already provided me with great mentoring tips and networking opportunities and I am excited to continue my role as Secretary! Please do not hesitate to contact AMWA with any concerns or questions that you may have. Remember, I am always available via email and I love to read highlights about accomplishments and events at each branch!

Region 4 Fundraising: Ladies' Night

Isn't Just for the Ladies
By: Alejandra Alvarez, Region 4 Student Director

Looking for fundraising ideas? Region 4 is here to help! This month, the AMWA branch at the University of Miami in Miami, FL hosted a great fundraising event to welcome its incoming class and give their student  body an opportunity to mingle. They invited gentlemen to join in on "Ladies Night" at a popular local restaurant and bar. Guys had the perks of ladies night as well as VIP entrance to the facility. UM AMWA students were identified with a wristband that was pre-sold to raise money for the local organization. Over 100 students attended - it was a great mid-week break and a good start to fundraising to support AMWA endeavors such as sending new members to the National Conference in March. As they put so nicely: "As we work to equal the playing field for women in medicine, we're also working to even the playing field for guys...this week, ladies' night wasn't just for ladies!"

Have any questions or want to find out how to implement a similar activity in your school? Feel free to contact Marissa Orenstein here.
