Introducing RESYNTEX

Welcome to the first issue of our newsletter! RESYNTEX is an innovative research project, developing a new circular economy concept for the textile and chemical industries. Non-wearable textile waste can be transformed into secondary raw materials using innovative recycling processes and industrial symbiosis.
Officially launched by EASME in December, the project’s first key meetings have taken place and research is now underway. RESYNTEX is already generating a buzz! Here’s just a few of the things that project partners have been up to:

Towards a Circular Economy

Europe needs to move towards a more circular economy to conserve its future environment and society. Currently, many of the materials contained in products are discarded after use.

The textile industry is no exception.

"Launched in December 2015, the Circular Economy strategy may have a great potential for the European textile and apparel industry. The strategy shall promote markets for high quality secondary raw materials, simplify and improve the implementation of waste legislation and tackle waste and resources challenges."

- Lutz Walter, EURATEX

Textile waste has increased steadily with only a fraction of it collected and recycled. Much of the waste is landfilled or incinerated at great cost, which impacts the environment.

RESYNTEX aims to change this through research and innovation.
