A Note From Your Director...
Shop Small, Shop Local
It’s that time of the year again, everyone is thinking about their Christmas list, in anticipation of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And I would be remised if I did not take this opportunity to remind you to Shop Small and Keep It Local.

Small Business Saturday will be celebrated on Saturday, November 30th, and although this nationally recognized day is important to raise awareness about local businesses, it is equally important to support the small businesses in our communities every day. Recently I learned about two other unique days that will be celebrated nationally to keep the “shop small and local” awareness visible.

Plaid Friday, originated in Oakland, California is a day to wear your favorite plaid and shop local. A campaign that is growing, to promote shopping small and relaxed, instead of adding to the frenzy that has become Black Friday.

Cider Monday (instead of Cyber Monday) is another new initiative to create a more personal way of shopping, by inviting folks into your business for a cup of cider and some face-to-face connections, reinforcing the way business was done in the days before internet shopping.

The TRC will be participating in both Plaid Friday and Cider Monday this year. You will see me wearing my favorite plaid and visiting our local merchants on Friday, November 29th, and on Monday, Dec. 2nd the TRC office will offer a sip of cider to anyone wanting to stop in to pay their 2020 dues, or to learn more about Chamber Membership.

I hope you will join me in celebrating these unique ways to support our small businesses in the Mon Valley.

Always Working for You,
Gina C. Lynn
