A Note From Your Chamber Director...
Prepping Fall Events
As I enjoy the "dog days" of summer, (and wishing they would last forever), I am also prepping for our fall events. TRC Fall Classic, Magical Mystery Tour III, Annual Meeting, Emerging Leadership Program and other events, meetings and programs are on tap for the second half of the year.

The TRC Fall Classic Golf Outing is just over a month away (Friday, Sept. 20th) and there is still plenty of time to support the event through sponsorships, golfer registration, or raffle prize donations. Proceeds from the Fall Classic benefit the TRC Scholarship Program with monetary awards to California University of PA, Douglas Education Center, Westmoreland County Community College and Belle Vernon Area HS. The Scholarship Program is our way of supporting the future business owners and leaders from our communities. For more information about the Fall Classic, email or visit

The 3rd Annual Magical Mystery Tour is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th, with over 15 "mystery" stops planned. Taking the tour to new communities along the Twin Rivers will showcase the availability of shopping, dining and entertainment venues in a 20-mile radius. Last year, this event generated over $14,000 to our local economy and I am feeling confident that we will surpass that number this year. Tickets are available online or by calling the TRC office at 724-929-3329.

Details about other the Annual Breakfast Meeting in October and other programs will be released soon. In the meantime, I will continue to prep for the fall, while enjoying these long summer days.

Mamm & Glamm Offers Breast Screening and Pampering
One of the best ways to detect breast cancer at its earliest stages is through 3-D mammography. Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) hopes that by adding a soothing atmosphere and some glamour to the process of getting a mammogram, local women will be encouraged to have their annual preventative screening at HealthPlex Imaging in Rostraver Twp.

The staff at HealthPlex Imaging will host Mamm & Glamm on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monongahela Valley Hospital HealthPlex. The event offers women the opportunity to have their mammograms, then enjoy free pampering services such as massages and paraffin hand wax treatments. Staff will provide a light breakfast and lunch, plus treats and other refreshments.

"We are really excited this program has returned. Prevention is so important in detecting breast cancer,” said Mary Ann Konsugar, HealthPlex Imaging manager. “We've reached many who were postponing their exams or who had never had a mammogram."

The facility offers 3-D mammograms, which improve the ability to detect breast cancer in dense breasts and generally lower the amount of callbacks and additional tests.

Ms. Konsugar said that HealthPlex Imaging follows national guidelines from the American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging, which all recommend yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing as long as a woman is in good health.

"Women ages 20 to 39 should have a clinical breast exam about every three years by their physician," she added. "Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and mammograms have helped reduce deaths from breast cancer in this country by 30 percent."

HealthPlex Imaging also offers women the opportunity to walk in any day for a mammogram without an appointment and without a prescription. HealthPlex Imaging has office hours Monday thru Saturday, with extended hours Tuesday evening.
