The Short Storey for August!

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of the summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning.”

— Natalie Babbitt

The start of the school year is upon us and a change of season looms. Why not defy the rush of late summer and celebrate relaxation? Whether you find sanctuary from busy lives by pressing fingers into pie dough, lounging on the beach, reading a good book, delving into a project, or spending time with loved ones, we’re here to remind you to take a moment, and enjoy the pause.

News: A Well-Earned Retirement

It’s bittersweet to announce that Pam Art, longtime president and publisher of Storey, is retiring this month after 30 years with us. She began at the company in 1983 when John and Martha Storey first opened the doors of Storey Communications in Pownal, Vermont. Through her many roles over the years, Pam has helped turn Storey into one of the most respected and trusted publishers in the world on gardening, animal husbandry, equine, fiber crafts, food preservation, and the wide landscape of skills that define country living.

Pam has taught us the importance of creating good editorial content and the value in developing long-lasting relationships with authors, readers, vendors and, of course, coworkers. For more than 30 years, she has been a friend and mentor to all she worked with.

So, what’s next for Pam? Never one to slow down, in the next volume of her life, she plans to create an author travel program that teaches sustainable skills to communities in need across the world.

Pam, we wish you all the best in your new adventures.
We will miss you!
