The Children’s Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT) Urges You to Become an Advocate for Our Children's Hospitals!

Welcome to the first edition of the 2016-2017 Children’s Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT) e-newsletter in advance of the opening day of the 85th Texas Legislature on January 10, 2017. You are receiving this newsletter because you are affiliated with one of CHAT’s member hospitals or you have indicated that you would like to receive information about children’s health care in Texas.

CHAT’s mission is to advance children’s health and well-being by advocating for policies and funding that promote children’s access to high-quality, comprehensive health care. Our member hospitals include:

  • Children’s Health (Dallas)
  • Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (San Antonio)
  • Cook Children’s Health Care System (Fort Worth)
  • Covenant Children’s Hospital (Lubbock)
  • Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas (Austin)
  • Driscoll Children’s Hospital (Corpus Christi)
  • Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston)

The purpose of our newsletters is to provide information and encourage your active support for children’s health care issues in the state, particularly related to proposed legislation and funding. Together with our member hospitals, CHAT will be working with state legislators to improve funding for children’s health care and to support legislation that improves the health of Texas children.

 CHAT's Legislative Priorities:

  • Increase Medicaid outpatient reimbursement rates
  • Improve the medical care provided to children in foster care
  • Sustain funding for the safety net add-on to inpatient hospital rates
  • Improve birth outcomes and keep new Texas moms healthy
  • Eliminate child sex trafficking
  • Support appropriate use and funding of telemedicine as an efficient method of providing health care to children

Meet Stacy Wilson, President of the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas

As the new president of CHAT, it is my mission to ensure all Texas children are given access to the highest-quality, specialized health care. I hope you will join me in advocating with your state and local government leaders and state legislators to keep Texas children’s health and well-being at the forefront of every decision made.
I come to CHAT after serving as vice president and associate general counsel for the Texas Hospital Association. Prior to that, I served as director of government affairs for Central Health and CommUnityCare, as well as general counsel for Central Health. Both of these entities focused on providing care to low-income, uninsured residents of Travis County.

I have more than twenty years of experience in health policy, advocacy and health law and am honored to be a part of CHAT. Our members deliver high-quality health care to Texas children every day, while also addressing the social determinants of health to ensure that we are giving children the best start in life that they can have.
