All your Beaverdale Neighborhood Association News and Announcements

Hey Neighbors,

We’re very pleased to announce the spring and summer line-up for the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association.  As you can see, the neighborhood association has dedicated more resources to these events and all of them look to be bigger and better than ever before.

Our first event will be the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Beaverdale Park on Saturday April 4th at 10:00 AM.  Debra Prentice has agreed to captain the event this year and we can always use a few more volunteers.  Please contact her if you’d like to help out at  The event is free and open to the public.
We’ll then host Grass Seats Cinema on June 11th.  Our featured movie this year is “Up,” one of the most beloved Pixar movies by those young and those young at heart.  Please contact Tracy French at if you’re interested in volunteering.
Two days after Grass Seats, our Beautification Committee will host the biannual Beaverdale Garden Walk on June 13th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Volunteers will be needed for shifts at each garden to greet visitors, check tickets, and give directions.  Please contact Nancy Dunbar if you’d like to volunteer.
On July 31st, we’re teaming up with Des Moines Metro Arts and some of our surrounding neighborhoods to host Jazz in July.  The Scott Davis Quartet and Christopher the Conquered have both agreed to perform.  Kevin Geiken will be captaining this event and we’re looking to try a lot of new things this year.  That means that planning early will be more important than ever.  If you’d like to be part of the group organizing Jazz in July or just to help out that day, contact Kevin at
Our last summer event will be National Night Out on August 4th in front of Snookie’s.  We’ll be asking the Isiserettes to perform and we’ll also have visits from Disney princesses and the Des Moines Police Department throughout the evening.  Our Public Affairs committee under Will Morris and Sasha Kamper will be coordinating the event.  Contact Will at if you have any new ideas for this year or would like to help out.
These warmer months are going to be busy and none of this would be possible without the Special Events Committee and Special Events Chair Tracy French.  If you’d like to join the committee and have a hand in any or all of these events, just let her know at  Our friends in the Beaverdale Farmers Market will also need some extra hands.  Their first market starts on June 2nd.  If you’re interested in being a vendor or in volunteering, check out their website at
Can’t wait to see you soon.
