Dear Ward 27 Constituents,

With so much happening in Toronto, I want to highlight four upcoming and engaging community events in Ward 27. 
  1. TEDxTheAnnexWomen with Councillor Wong-Tam on May 28
  2. Salon 27: City-Building Conversations with Councillor Wong-Tam and Desmond Cole on June 2
  3. Allan Gardens Playground Launch & Ribbon Cutting on June 13
  4. Allan Gardens Open House and Consultation for a New Addition (Public Washrooms) on June 13

1.    TEDxTheAnnexWomen with Councillor Wong-Tam on May 28  

Join Councillor Wong-Tam at the University Club of Toronto for the second TEDx event TEDxTheAnnexWomen on May 28th.  Along with headline speaker Almas Jiwani, the President of UN Canada Women, and other great local women, this event will explore the idea of Momentum.  The event will be emceed by CityNews Tammie Sutherland and will include a live streaming of the TED Global conference, a World Cafe, and networking reception to follow with food and wine.

This year’s conference will comprise of six additional local female speakers:
  • President of UN Women National Committee Canada- Almas Jiwani
  • City of Toronto Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam
  • Royal Historian Dr. Carolyn Harris
  • President of Global Indigenous Development Trust Sonia Molodecky
  • 16-year-old activist Naz Gocek
  • Social Entrepreneur Vanessa Reid
  • Urban Cycling Consultant Yvonne Bambrick

2.    Salon 27: City-Building Conversations with Councillor Wong-Tam and Desmond Cole on June 2

Councillor Wong-Tam is excited to host the inaugural Salon 27, a forum for creative conversations on city-building. Joined by special guest speaker Desmond Cole, Torontoist journalist and author of Toronto Life cover story “The Skin I’m In: I’ve been interrogated by police more than 50 times – all because I’m black,” this first session of Salon 27 will focus on building an inclusive city.

Everyone is welcome to meet the Councillor, as well as Desmond and Ward 27 residents, businesses and communities at ViaVai Pizzeria & Wine Bar, a new restaurant in the ward.  The Councillor anticipates a lively discussion on this timely and important topic.  Light snacks will be provided.

3.    Allan Gardens Playground Launch & Ribbon Cutting on June 13

After much anticipation, Councillor Wong-Tam is delighted to invite one and all to the official opening of the new Allan Gardens playground!  Join us for the ribbon cutting, followed by light refreshments on June 13 at 11:30am.

4.    Allan Gardens Open House and Consultation for a New Addition (Public Washrooms) on June 13

An Open House information session on the new washroom and administrative facility will coincide with the playground launch and ribbon cutting.  We look forward to seeing you there!  Please note that in the event of rain, this event will take place on June 20.
