Founders Spotlight: John Amirrezvani, Class of '06

John Amirrezvani photoTaking the reins of an ambiguous, structure-less entity is certainly a hard thing to do. For nearly four years, the alumni scholarship was offered anonymously by a group of alumni that pooled their money. Yet, in the summer of 2010 it became apparent there was need for more organization and structure to help organize the scholarship, coordinate alumni activities, and serve as central place for updates and inquiries. During that summer, the active alumni decided to create the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association.
Deciding to create the Alumni Association was easy, but choosing to step up and serve as the President to help structure, incorporate, and guide the organization during its first two years was hard. Only one person rose to the challenge: Class of 2006 graduate John Amirrezvani.

Crooms Receives 'A' Grade

For the second year in a row, Crooms AoIT earned an 'A' grade for 2012. Crooms AoIT is one of only two high schools in the county to have received an 'A' grade for four out of the last five years, and it is the only high school to have received an 'A' grade for six out of the last seven years. The school also deserves further recognition for its stellar scholastic achievement across the socioeconomic spectrum: the school has a 47% minority student population and 47% free/reduced lunch population.

Alumni Take Part in TechFest Break-Out Sessions

This year's TechFest was the best so far. There was not enough time in the day to meet all of the interesting people that volunteered for the event - everyone from party planners to US Secret Service agents. From the Alumni Association we had Santiago Ossa, Tyler Kraus, Matt Carli, and Mallory Bose. The break-out sessions were very interactive with the students who attended. This year, the group focused on specific students who volunteered information which was used as examples of how to get from where they are now to where they want to be. Next year we look forward to speaking again and having new speakers join the team!

Matthew Carli

Matthew Carli: Why did I become a member of The Founders Society?

I feel I am a Founder of Crooms AoIT by being part of the first graduating class. Crooms has also done a lot for my personal and professional development, and I want to stay involved in Crooms AoIT to ensure its future and legacy. As our alumni base continues to grow, I would also like to see the Alumni Association help facilitate professional networking between Croomies to strengthen our school's appeal. - Read more about Matthew
