So many things have happened
already this year.

  • Our goal was to be carbon neutral by 2020. Thanks to collaboration with donors and our community,  we expect to be carbon neutral this year! Solar panels were needed, to provide power for us as an emergency center and they have been installed. Our new electric cart is charged by those panels and we use it daily. It's ready to provide emergency transport of people and supplies in any upcoming emergency, for example when we are cut off from a supply of gasoline, as happened during the recent Tropical Storm Nate. Emergency supplies for the community are in place and we have partnerships to lodge any individuals in need during such an emergency.
  • We planted over 14,000 trees  last year and have another 19,000  to distribute this year in our habitat restoration program! Many groups and individuals have helped with our reforestation program including National Geographic Tours, G-Adventures, Collette Travel, Sun Tours, Change the World Kids, Terri Mallory, and the Adventure Girls.
  • The Adopt-a-Stream Program with three local high schools has given us a large body of information.  This has provided a huge benefit, not only to the individual students, but to local planners who are working diligently to protect the water supply in the Monteverde/Santa Elena areas. Although we are in the Cloud Forest, the El Niño event negatively affects our preceipitation resulting  an extended dry season this year. By gathering information and teaching about our water supply the community is rallying around conservation and protection of this vital resource.
