Winter Camaraderie at Member-Guest Holiday Breakfast
The NAIOP DC|MD Chapter Member-Guest Holiday Breakfast and Annual Meeting brought colleagues together for breakfast and analysis at the Congressional Country Club in December.  An introduction to Chapter leadership, an impromptu tribute and a presentation by Community Outreach Committee Chair Roseanne Beattie were enjoyed over breakfast before Keynote Speaker Anirban Basu (Sage Policy Group) presented an entertaining, animated and often personal case for a 2017 with the potential for surprises in store but no reason for fear or retreat. Download Mr. Basu's presentation here.

Implementing the IgCC in Montgomery
Montgomery County Council is currently considering adoption of the 2012 International Green Construction Code (IgCC).  Ralph Bennett, FAIA, (Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects, Inc.) was on hand to discuss the implications for building in Montgomery County, the relationship between the existing LEED® and ASHRAE standards and how members can have their voices heard on the implementation of this new code moving forward.  Most new commercial and multifamily projects will be affected by this code adoption.  NAIOP DC|MD continues to support the use of LEED® as an alternative path, which is consistent with other jurisdictions that have adopted the code.

Presenter Ralph Bennett, FAIA outlines the implications of the County’s proposed adoption of the IgCC

Things Got REEL-y Ugly on the Lanes
NAIOP DC|MD REEL members and guests gathered at Pinstripes in Georgetown on December 6 to celebrate the holiday season with some networking. The REEL Ugly Sweater Bowling event was a big hit with over 75 gathered to bowl and compete to win the prize for ugliest sweater; the ignominious title went to E. J. Strittmatter (Brandywine).

Winner E. J. Strittmatter with coworker Rachel Barnes, left, and finalist Marco Pieri (Cooper Carry)
