Each of the artists in the exhibition use artists' books as part of their practice. They are all interested in the book as nexus between word and image, the development of story-telling through sequential pages and the possibility of pushing the 'book' into new artistic territory. Ipswich Art  Gallery Immaterial Labour (Skate-Dish-Prounspace #2014)
An installation by Pat Hoffie
21 June – 10 August 2014
Drawing inspiration from El Lissitsky’s Proun Room, this installation presents the gallery as both a site of labour and of recreation. In 1923 El Lissitsky’s prouns were task-oriented creations for a new and better world; in 2014 art stands at a juncture between labour, entertainment and recreation. For El Lissitsky the prouns were articulations of space, energy and forces, rather than aesthetics. It still seems like a good idea. And fun.
