New this Fall!

Something new and exciting is coming soon! I talked to you last month about Apple working on some new hardware, but before they can do that, we need new software to run on our new shinny Macs and iPhones. Something new that Apple will do different this time is to open up it's Apps to 3rd party developers which is fantastic! At the WWDC conference earlier this month, Apple introduced all the new software they have been working on and here it is...

iOS 10: This new operating system is for your iPhone and iPad.
  • Messages: Apple has added some great new features! You will be able to change the size of message bubbles to give your text more drama. If you need to say it big, your text bubble will now gladly oblige. Another feature will be the ability for you to write in your own hand writing in a text to make it extra special. You will be able to personalize your text with all kind of things and even write in invisible ink! Emojis will now be bigger and better. Before sending your text, just tap and emojis will replace any text in your message if it is available. There are so many extra special things that the new Messages will be able to do that you'll just have to check it out for yourself.
  • Siri: Use voice command in almost everything. The developers of the App will now decide to incorporate Siri or not. I love using my voice to control things as they are the only ones who listen to me!
  • Maps: is now improved in that it will incorporate other Apps within it so that you can make reservations without ever leaving Maps! You will also be able to see what is around you. It can even guess where you're going and make suggestions! Scary!
  • HomeKit: One of my pet peeves was that HomeKit was lame! I was vindicated when Craig Federighi at Apple admitted it! Apple has now introduced an App that goes with it called Home. They have also opened it to many devices so that I can finally walk around my house telling light bulbs to turn on and off, open the door, play music and on and on. I'm really excited about this one.
  • Music: has been redesigned. Lets hope it's better than it was because I don't like it. Give me Pandora any day!
  • Rise to wake and Rich Notifications: Just pick up your phone and it will wake up and be ready for you to read your rich notifications which will allow you to go to videos or photos and even respond to a message right in Notifications.
  • There are many more additions for iOS 10. It will work with an iPhone 5 or above, iPad mini 2 or above, iPad 4th generation or above, and a 6th gen iPod Touch. If you have an older device, I'm afraid it' stuck forever and  it's time for another one. To find out more about iOS 10 coming in the Fall, click here: iOS 10
watchOS: If you don't have an Apple Watch, you might want to consider getting one for Christmas. They completely rewrote the software for the watch making it better than ever! love my Apple Watch and use it daily. Here is what I will love even more:
  • Faster: Now that Apple knows what the watch will do, they are making it even faster than before and you don't even have to buy and new watch!
  • SOS: If you get into trouble you can easily send an SOS to loved ones and authorities all at once right from your watch!
  • Home: Use the home App to control your smart home! Just like Dick Tracy! Just say it on your watch and your lights come on or your door unlocks or your garage door opens. The sky's the limit!
  • Unlock: Once you upgrade your Mac, you'll be able to unlock it with your watch, no password needed!
  • Messages: Just like Messages in iOS 10, Messages on the Apple Watch have been greatly improved. Send a sticker or set off fireworks! The choice is yours! You will even be able to write out your own message on the screen and it will type it for you!
  • Breath App: Boy is this one for me. You can use it to relax or to help with your breathing and I need all the help I can get!
  • Learn more about the new watchOS here: watchOS

macOS Sierra: Apple wasn't going to leave the Mac out and here it is! OS X is dead! Apple has renamed the Mac operating system just macOS. Sierra is the version.
  • Siri: Yep, Siri will now be on your Mac! Did I tell you that I love voice control :) Just ask Siri to send a Message while you're working or ask her to locate a File. I'm sure you will be able to find all kinds of cool things to do with Siri on your Mac.
  • Photos: New and improved! A new added feature is something called Memories which will quickly create a slide show of your adventures.
  • Universal Clipboard: This is soooooo cool! Copy something on your iPhone and paste it on your Mac! Or copy it on your Mac and paste it to your iPad! Awesome!
  • iCloud Drive: Now your entire Documents folder and Desktop can be stored and updated to iCloud Drive and accessed on all your devices. No more wondering where things are because they will be everywhere! There are many more features on macOS Sierra coming this Fall. You will find them here: macOS Sierra
Click on the links I provided above to get a feel of what the new Operating Systems will do before they get here. Good things are coming! Here are the Mac versions macOS Sierra will work on:

iMac: Late 2009 or newer
MacBook: Late 2009 or newer
MacBook Air: Late 2010 or newer
MacBook Pro: Mid 2010 or newer
Mac mini: Mid 2010 or newer
Mac Pro: Mid 2010 or newer

Oh, and one more thing.... you will be able to get rid of all those stupid Apple Apps on your iPhone you never use like Stocks, Tips, and Watch just in case you don't have one.

Great Tech!

Is your Mac keyboard getting a little sluggish or are you tired of changing batteries all the time? Then this Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is for you! It's bluetooth so there are no wires, then it charges by the light in the room so there are no batteries to fool with. It is beautiful, has a numeric keypad, and is backlit. I think Logitech does a lot better creating keyboards than Apple does. I have seen these at Meijer! You can always order one from Logitech directly here: Logitech

Macstock 2016: It will be here soon! Come and join me July 16th & 17th for the Macstock Expo and BBQ in Chicago! Come and learn more about the Apple products you love. It's $149 for the classes and BBQ, plus the hotel night. If you want to go, we can get a carpool going. Click on the picture above to check it out for yourself. I would love to see you there! If you come to my class, you have to promise me that you won't throw tomatoes!

Tech Support Pop Ups!
(People are still falling for this!)

If you get a message on your Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad or Samsung phone or tablet telling you that you have a virus and to call a number it is a scam! Don't do it! I have people fall for this on a daily basis! Please tell your friends and family! I can't say this enough! It is not Apple and or Microsoft! It is some sleazy slime ball that wants to steal from you. Don't let them! Be smart. If this happens to you, print out these instructions and keep them in a folder near your Mac so you know what to do:
