CliniSync will work with CPC Plus practices. New products and functionalities offered!

CliniSync will work with CPC+ practices

The Health Information Exchange teams from CliniSync and our technology vendor, Medicity, met with the Board of Directors and members of our CliniSync Advisory Council last week to learn about upcoming products and services on the horizon.  Medicity CEO Nancy Ham said CliniSync is its largest client and one of the leaders in the nation as a Health Information Exchange.

Because of its connectivity throughout the state, CliniSync also has applied for vendor status for all practices that would like to participate in the federal Comprehensive Primary Care Plus initiative that focuses on payment reform with health insurance companies.

The full array of products and functionalities for practices and providers includes:

IT Support: Get 24/7 information technology from our Support Team at CliniSync during the day and Medicity in the evening.

Results and Reports Delivery: Receive results/transcribed reports into an EHR or into a CliniSync inbox.

Community Health Record: Access individual patient community health records that include encounters at hospitals and practice visits.  Also allows access to Ohio’s Prescription Drug Management Program, OARRS.

Referrals: Electronically send and receive customized patient referrals with confirmation and tracking in real time.

Direct Messaging: Use our HISP (Health Information Service Provider) to send and receive messages using the national Direct protocol.

Integrated Direct Messaging: Send and receive secure messages with other providers and stay within the EHR environment.

Electronic Orders: Hospitals can integrate an orders capability to physicians and other providers.

Notify: Receive notifications when a patient is admitted or discharged as an inpatient or ED patient.

Contribute: Publish patient data to CliniSync’s longitudinal Community Health Record.

Single Sign On: Enables a view of the Community Health Record from within their EHR without the need for additional log in information.

EHR Gateway: Allows clinician to query and retrieve information and to create/contribute Continuity of Care documents.
CliniSyncPLUS: A team of experts will assist with Meaningful Use, PQRS, quality reporting, audits, security and payment reform.

Culture of confidentiality bolsters cybersecurity

Ransomeware. Bitcoins. Phishing emails. Unencrypted devices. HIPAA breaches.

The Hackers Guide to Hacking Healthcare set the theme for such ominous subjects covered at the CSOHIMSS 2016 Conference in Dublin May 20 as experts shared their experience with members and vendors.

In just three years, Henry Ford Health System in Detroit experienced four data breaches, the latest involving the theft of 15,416 x-rays, presumably stolen for their silver. From 2010-2013, stolen, unencrypted laptops and a mobile device were the culprits.

Privacy and Security Officer Meredith Phillips spearheaded the effort to create a “culture of confidentiality” throughout the 31,000-member workforce over the past several years.

“The culture we have created with our workforce has resulted in a unique energy and a ‘can-do spirit’ that is the foundation of Henry Ford Health System. We have a passion around engaging our people and operate on the belief that an engaged workforce creates a better, safer patient.”

Without all members of the five-hospital healthcare community onboard – from staff all the way up to the Board level – a large health system can’t begin to tackle the complexities of cybersecurity.

“If you can’t get to the hearts and minds of your people, you have no privacy and security," Phillips said.

To get practical, step-by-step instructions on how to create this culture go to the PowerPoint presentation by Ms. Phillips and other cybersecurity experts on the CSOHIMSS 2016 Spring Conference website at

BlueOrange offers free security scan

BlueOrange Compliance is offering an external vulnerability scan to qualified members of the Ohio Health Information Partnership and CliniSync Health Information Exchange.

Routine testing of network security can reveal vulnerabilities in your network and ultimately enables organizations to better select the appropriate security measures.Whether you’ve recently performed any penetration testing or not, we feel that our approach to privacy and security can enhance your overall risk management program.
Cyber Security Scan Deliverable
Qualified candidates can have an external vulnerability scan preformed on up to 10 external/public facing devices.  The scan will simulate the practices and methods of external agents attempting unauthorized data access.  The scan results will provide insight into the security of entry points into your organization by identifying potential vulnerabilities exploitable by anyone on the internet.
Please contact David Beam at if you would like to participate and receive an external scan at no cost. You also can call him in Dublin, Ohio, at 614-567-4131.

July 15 deadline to upgrade to IE v11

We want to remind you of the INTERNET EXPLORER change we communicated in January that will take effect on July 15th.

Microsoft has announced that as of January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. To ensure data security, we strongly encourage clients to update their browser today to IE v11.

Because Microsoft will not be pushing out any security or non-security updates to unsupported versions, we are advising you that our technology vendor – Medicity – will only support IE 11 on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1.

While we strive to support your technology needs every day, we cannot provide 100 percent support for issues that occur within the unsupported IE applications or issues within the IE products themselves.

Ensuring our customers’ data security is our number one priority. Please update your browser today.

Just to clarify about other browsers, for security and functionality purposes, we support Internet Explorer 11, Firefox and Chrome.

Read more information about the Microsoft support changes.
