IN THIS ISSUE: NEW NAI DIRECTOR, INVENTOR STORIES, A NEW INSTITUTIONAL MEMBER, FELLOW NEWS & MORE!

The Board of Directors, led by President Paul Sanberg, FNAI, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamie Renee as Executive Director of the National Academy of Inventors. Renee brings more than 25 years of corporate and nonprofit experience, having served in leadership roles within Home Depot, OAI, The Children's Home, United Way, and Habitat for Humanity. In 2017 Renee founded Good Day Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and project implementation.

“Two years ago, we had the great fortune to meet Jamie as the facilitator of the Academy's Strategic Board Retreat and immediately knew she would be a great asset to our organization,” said Sanberg.

Since then, Renee has been serving the Academy as the Senior Advisor to the President, working with the Board and staff to foster an inclusive and impactful culture and programming. Renee officially started in her role as Executive Director on December 1, 2021.

“It's is an honor I take very seriously. I pledge to our members that I will be razor-focused on ensuring NAI's lasting future, serving as an innovation and invention ambassador, and expanding our connections and collective impact with our members and partners,” said Renee.

We know an Inventor's journey is filled with peaks, valleys, and unexpected turns. Here's your chance your stories of inspiration, mentors, and victories after setbacks.

We'll start with this one from Senior Member Kenji Uchino and his inspiration found in a karaoke bar...

"I’ve made a breakthrough that could lead to photophones – devices without electrical connections that convert light energy directly into sound. Perhaps this discovery will help commercialize optical telephone networks. It also could allow robots to respond directly to light; again, without a need for wire connectors.

Where did I come up with the idea for this light conversion? Not with the sunlight shining through my office window, and not outside feeling the warmth of the sun, but in a dimly lit Karaoke bar..."
