Cambodia to Cabramatta

“Multi dishes, multicultural … I really love Cabramatta. I know it used to be a bad area to grow up, but who cares – food is here. I’m not going to starve myself to death. That’s what four years under communist regime was all about. Everyone starved to death. I promised myself was if I was going to die, I die with my belly full.”

Final invitation to join Curious Creator Sean Ly at the free debut screening of Beyond Refuge: Flashback this Friday at the Whitlam Library in Cabramatta.

The 25-minute film, with original music contributed by The Cambodian Space Project, is Sean's journey to record the previously unshared story of his parents – refugees from Cambodia who settled in Western Sydney in the 1980s.

This is a first-cut screening, offering you an opportunity to contribute to the filmmaking process. Sean will be there to gather feedback and audience reaction before developing his film further. Details and ticket reservations.

Western Sydney’s 22nd Century Colony

“Visually it is a feast … and the score was exceptional” – Australian Stage

We've received more critical acclaim for Colony: When the Tide Comes In as it scored the 'editor's pick' for June entertainment listed on Sydney Scoop.

Our live audio-visual concert, showing at Riverside Theatres in Parramatta next month, continues the story of Sam, a young woman living in a future Australia struggling under the impact of climate change, social division and restricted personal freedom.

The tale is told through live music and character narration against a ‘graphic novel’ backdrop of illustrations, film and animation. It can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story, or as the latest chapters in our Colony web series.
